West Brom prepare big-money bid for Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere

Albion are today preparing a big-money bid to sign AS Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere, according to reports in France.

The Baggies have been monitoring former France Under-21s international Riviere for some time.

Sources close to Monaco claim the French club now expect a bid from the Baggies.

Riviere joined Monaco a year ago but a host of big-money signings could force him out of the first-team picture.

Albion have an interest but Monaco are unlikely to sanction a cut-price deal as Riviere is contracted until 2017.

That could push the asking price close to or past Albion’s record transfer fee, which is currently the £6m they paid Sunderland for Stephane Sessegnon last summer.

Monaco paid Toulouse around £3.5m for Riviere a year ago.

Riviere has found his first-team appearances at Monaco limited with his only lengthy run in the side last season coming when Radamel Falcao suffered a serious knee problem.

The Colombian will be fit to return for the start of the season and veteran former Tottenham, Manchester United and Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov has also signed a contract there for next term.

capehill

I take we must have been scouting him for a while, hopefully hell be a good addition, I also hear Stoke are very keen on him and actually bid 7/8 mill in Jan. Don't know how true that is though.

Jay

Sign him up great bit of business for about 5 mill looks like a real talent

telford baggie

as soon as i read " albion prepare big money bid" i stopped reading haha no chance

superwestbrom

Anyone know much about him

Jack the Hat

superwestbrom,

See below, that is what I have gleaned.

Captain Mardon International

They keep a lot under the radar don't they. Another interesting lead which will hopefully come to fruition.

solihullbaggie

Try and get Lukaku first on loan for £2 or £3 mill, you know what you will get with him, I can't see it happening though

flintoff

Mr Solihull, I do believe that Chelsea have said the Mr Lakaku will not be leaving this season.

BURNLEY BAGGIE

Solihull

You must get over the Lukaku thing he is to expensive for us now.

He is one of the most sought after strikers in Europe and i keep hearing figures of 30 mill+

flintoff

I should imagine with WBA being an established premier league club that money will not be a problem, I suppose it depends on how ambitious Mr chairman is, but to be honest he is not a player I am familiar with.

Jack the Hat

flintoff,

True, you wouldn't know much about him, quite a way off wolves beam I should imagine. L☺Ls.

BOING~~~~BOING~~~~J♣H.

I would imagine he is a way off Wolves beam Mr Jack, but I also think when Mr Peace comes to pay his wages he will also be off WBA beam.

Jack the Hat

No need to lose your head, L☺Ls.

BOING~~~~BOING~~~~J♣H.

Jack the Hat

flintoff,

I have read somewhere Emmanuel Riviere is on £25k per week at this time but I can't find it now.

BOING~~~~BOING~~~~J♣H.

flintoff

Well he can`t be that good then Mr Jack.

keith

Lots of information on the Internet about this guy= just look in the usual places.

Looks useful and certainly knows where the goal is.Not quite Lukaku but certainly someone

for Berahino to aspire to.Could be quite a signing if we can get him and certainly a clear

statement of intent by the club.

Jack the Hat

keith,

Riviére is very strong in the six yard box, takes some knocking out of his stride.

BOING~~~~BOING~~~~J♣H.

Looks like he can score with both feet and he looks confident . Don't know if he can speak any English but he should soon feel at home .He'll just be swapping the boats in the harbour at Monte Carlo for the barges at Tipton on cut.gods country . Boing Boing.

Don't know about his English, but his scoring prowess says a lot.

Interesting. I've seen him on Youtube but that can be notoriously misleading. I trust our scouting system though. Bring him on. Having said that the club will probably deny any interest tomorrow.

Cyril

Best way to be Bully. Keep schtum until his name is on the dotted line. That's a great aerial shot of The Hawthorns and the surrounding district.. I looked for me at turnstiles F or G but it looks like I'd already gone in.

The Real Bully Hoo.

It is a good picture isn't it Cyril.

Sorry to contradict myself but I couldn't help thinking of the old Jimmy Cliff song if we sign him, Many Rivers to Cross.

"We've got Manny Rivieres to cross to."

AndyH

Hi Bully and Cyril,

If he's on the list then as always it will come down to the money side of things.....he could just be our "Rivieres of dreams......"

or...when he score a shed load (if we sign him) the opposition will be chanting "Cry me a Rivieres".....

I'm sorry

AndyH

The View From Baggy Bottom

Personally I'd be over the 'Moon Rivieres', if it comes off. But, is he up for the fight in he Prem, or is he just 'Yellow Rivieres'

Sorry. Back to work now.

The Real Bully Hoo.

If we do get him though it'll be Boney M's.

"He's Rivieres of Albion."

Hi WONOH.

Only one of those players still here.

But the memories will last forever.

PS.

Anybody else think our ground looks like two separate pictures photo-shopped together?

Medway Baggie

As far as I am aware as long as you are not receiving monetary rewards, passing it off as your own or using it for advertising purposes then you should be okay. There is an additional problem of photographs being "published" on the web being "fair game".

I neither claim ownership, sell, rent or use the photgraph for advertisment. I just use it as a wallpaper on a private system.

By the time you have finished bending it and shaping it you no need to worry about copyright mate, they'll never recognize it.

We Only Need One Half!

I know Bully, but the wulfies still bang on about the Fifties, so its positively current!

Don't know if you've seen it before, BBC4, 2300, Holy Flying Circus, worth a luck.

The Real Bully Hoo.

I'll tape that WONOH.

I noticed when checking it out they're repeating Alias Smith and Jones at 1800 on ITV4, I don't know how it will look these days but it was required Monday night viewing back in the 70's.

Cyril

Alias Smith and Jones triggers a memory. Back in 1970 I bought 'the definitive version' of Sibelius 5th Symphony and also bought copies for my brothers. Yes, it was THAT good.

Imagine then when my younger brother's little girl came in yelling, "Dad, they're playing Sibelius 5th and Jones".

That comment rests in our archives.

The Real Bully Hoo.

I see that in the media the Liverpool Suarez apologists, Graham Beecroft, Tony Evans, Mickey Quinn et al, "well it's no worse than an elbow or a two footed challenge." Are in competitionn with the Uruguay Suarez apologists, players, management etc, "What bite?"

Now I like the Uruguay denyers and I like the Liverpool whingers but who's the best?

There's only one way to find out.

BITE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wbaforever

Liverpool Suarez apologists............Love that term.

My opinion of Quinn is similar to that of Collymore, which is pretty much unprintable.

It will be interesting to observe their attitudes toward Suarez should he move on from Liverpool.

From misunderstood victim, to Hannibal Lecter-esque thug overnight I suspect.

Medway Baggie

Bully

Suarez's lawyer is saying that Suarez's mouth accidently caught the other guy's shoulder and that there is a European conspiracy (ie England and Italy) against his client. Couldn't make it up could you.

Golf One Charlie Bravo Kilo

The Real Bully Hoo.

Hi Medway and Forever.

I've spent many, many hours in courtrooms not to mention below stairs hearing solicitors and barristers telling their clients what to say and believe me that doesn't surprise me one little bit.

Medway, Wbaforever, Bully,

F.I.F.A. are " Chewing the fat " on the Suarez case and should come up with their verdict today.

Hi Codpiece.

It's listening to Steve and Jez that's made you so cynical.

Codsallman,

Bet you said the same when Irvine went in for Joleon Lescott.

Gorra loff ay ya.

BOING~~~~BOING~~~~J♣H.

BURNLEY BAGGIE

His record is a goal in 3 and interestingly when i Googled him there was a piece in the mail from May claiming Stoke had beaten us to his signature for a fee of 8 mill http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2641587/Emmanuel-Riviere-set-join-Stoke-City-Monaco-8million-deal.html

I would guess from that article 8 mill is the figure we will have to pay he is also on about 25k a week currently.

beachbanjo

I still think selling shane long was a mistake for your boys but you have lescott and he is a real player and a good signing but i think at some point he will be back to us at wolves.good luck for the season though but not sure irving is the man for you.loaning players I dont really understand as you want players who will stay and become great for a club, not go back to there parent clubs..... going to championship and l1 and league 2 i do to develop but prem ,with the money you want a 15 million bid and get that player.

Jack the Hat

Looking on the YouTube clip he looks very athletic, prepared to put himself about a bit and he gets into goal scoring positions. Looks a bit of a gymnast as well. Our interest in him has been mentioned on Sky Sports News earlier, and I know they probably just follow up on newspaper claims, but it seems more believable when Sky report on things.

Wait and see time again.

Emmanuel Rivière, age 24, height 5' 11 1/2", Striker can play wide man, good with both feet and head. Comes with a Zoltan Gera type celebration and the goals he scores means he gets a lot of practice to perfect it. Bring him in if possible. Well within our price range.

We Only Need One Half!

I still like the look of Jordan Ayew, (I did post as much the day, put it disappeared into the ether with a load of other posts) blistering pace, would be a good foil for Berahino, and would terrify most of the Prems now ageing defences.

Then we could sing "Ayew, we've a Rock Steady Crew"!!!!

p.s. is it me, or does the headline "Police operation to keep apart fans at Wolves game a 'failure'" on the main news pages suggest it was the Coppers fault?

Max Wall Heath Baggie

Ayew, you are the man

Take a great club and make it better

Remember to let us into your heart

Then you can start to make it better

Ayew, don't be afraid

You were made to play for the Albion

The minute you let us under your skin

Then you begin to make it better

And anytime you need a game, Ayew, refrain

You carry the shirt upon your shoulders

For well you know that it's a fool who plays for Wolves

By making his world a little colder

Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah

Ayew, don't let us down

We have found you, now go and sign up

Remember to let us into your heart

Then you can start to make it better

So let it out and let it in, Ayew, begin

You're waiting for someone to perform with

And don't you know that it's just you, Ayew, you'll do

The shirt that you wear is on your shoulders

Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah yeah

Ayew, it would be good

Take a great club and make it better

Remember to let us under your skin

Then you'll begin to make it

Better better better better better better, oh

Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, Ayew

Nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, Ayew

Just for Cyril.

It's based on a ditty from a newish popular beat combo known as The Beatles Milord.

Cyril

Bully, I think I've heard of them ! At first I thought, 'Beatles', they cor spell. When we came back from Bridgnorth, I went to work at Thermair September 1963 , at the time off Oldbury Rd. Heat and Light, spindryers, etc. Any new bloke was subjected to the ordeal of the Assembly shop, almost all women and girls. Imagine a unified chorus of "She loves you yeah, yeah, yeah" in your direction. You soon knew The Beatles, believe me. But it was a small, wonderful firm. Most of the females were too.

BURNLEY BAGGIE

He'll be a Barcalona player by 4th October

CantelloRocket 78

I still don't get it-

ever since we had awareness of AIDS, people have been ultra-sensitive about the 'transfer' of blood and body fluids, plus whenever a player gets blood on his shirt, he must immediately change it-

therefore deliberately sinking your teeth into someone on worldwide TV is not only an horrific example to be witnessed by impressionable children, but must surely be seen as assault, and totally unacceptable in modern society-

in my view, forget his 'ability' as a footballer, there can only be one judgement-

a lifetime ban from the game, and a shameful, disgraceful reputation, sending out a powerful warning to any other 'animals' on the pitch who're tempted to copy an action only fit for wild dogs.....

AndyH

Hi Rocket,

my wife's just changing jobs to a school back in the black country and they sent here a form to fill in on vaccinations....they want to know if she's had a HepC jab as part of the job (it's new in some schools because of biters according to the practice nurse she spoke too)....boxers have blood tests because of the possible transfer of disease due to cuts in fights....

what he did is not acceptable in society as a whole and he should have been banned for life!! Period!!

In context of bans he's got off lightly...

Rio ferdibland got 8 months for missing a drugs test (and we'll always never know ...will we..) Cantona got 9 months and a suspended sentence + community service for his kung fu kick...so the hungry hippo should have been banned for life.

Liverfool will, probably and depressingly, try and keep him with some more medical intervention...and we all know he does have issues that need treatment and I hope he gets them because he surely needs it.

But it should have been a life ban....even a minimum of 4 years would be better than this fudge!!

AndyH

Talking of Suarez, he is extremely disappointed at the ban, as he wanted to play against Germany. He had said he quite fancied a "shoulder of Llamb"

CantelloRocket 78

It's being claimed tonight in the 'other' local paper that Monaco might be willing to accept 4 mil. for Riviere, with Stoke looking elsewhere for strikers, and Albion having spoken to his club about availability-

could be promising....

Also, further claims elsewhere that the Baggies have made a 1 mil. bid for Dundee United's young left-back Andy Robertson - who apparently just had an outstanding season - and a further bid of nearer 2 mil. might do the trick.......

rumours, but maybe realistic ones.........??

Jack the Hat
