The Oldbury athlete is second after American Gwen Jorgensen won in Hyde Park to take the overall lead.

But Stimpson had been unable to train in the run up to the race after needing stitches in a foot injury she suffered in Yokohama two weeks ago.

The 25-year-old has 2396 points, 228 behind Jorgensen with Sarah Groff, who finished second at the weekend, third on 1959.

In the men's race Mario Mola beat South Africa's Richard Murray in a sprint finish as Great Britain's Alistair Brownlee slipped back to fourth and brother Jonny, settled for fifth.

Alistair Brownlee said: "I was just going as hard as I could for that last kilometre, trying to put in attack after attack, but it wasn't good enough. They were still faster than me. I went as hard as I could. I thought that was the best thing to do, but 100 … 80 metres to go, I just had nothing left."
