Walsall's Hemmings on month loan to Burton Albion

WALSALL winger Ashley Hemmings has gone out on a month's loan to Burton Albion.

The 23-year-old, who has netted five goals for the Saddlers this term, will join the League Two side on a deal which ends on April 27.

Hemmings was a key member of Dean Smith's side during the opening months of the season but has fallen out of favour recently, following the return to the Banks's of Febian Brandy.

The former Wolves ace hasn't started a game since the 1-1 draw at Tranmere and has not been on the bench in recent weeks.

Burton are still in with a chance of automatic promotion from League Two and boss Gary Rowett revealed Hemmings has been a long-term target.

"We're pleased to be able to bring Ashley in," he said. "We've been looking at him since Zeli Ismail got injured he comes with good experience.

"Ashley has lots of ability and has played at a higher level with Walsall in League One. His pace and trickery brings us a different option and we think he'll be a good addition in the last few games of the season."

Walsall's young defender Matt Preston has extended his loan spell with Barwell after some solid displays in the heart of their back-line, though keeper Shane Lewis has been recalled from his loan stay with Stockport County.
