The Reading forward, aged 36, is hanging up his boots after playing more than 500 games as a professional.

The London-born Grenada international last played in December, 2012, and had surgery on a hip injury in March 2013, but has been unable to regain full fitness.

"I have had an amazing 17 years playing professional football and I'm proud of everything I've achieved and am grateful for all that I've experienced," said Roberts.

"I've played in every division and I have fond memories of my time at each and every club I have represented, and also playing internationally for Grenada.

"I am now looking forward to the future and having time to focus on my charity The Jason Roberts Foundation."

Roberts, who is the nephew of former Albion, Villa and Wolves hero Cyrille Regis, moved to Molineux from non-league Hayes in 1997 but left a year later having not made a first-team appearance.

After spells at Torquay, Bristol City and Bristol Rovers, he joined the Baggies in 2000 and made 101 appearances, scoring 27 goals and helping the club win promotion to the Premier League in 2002.

He later played for Portsmouth, Wigan, Blackburn and Reading.
