A club statement said Rangers and Mutch had mutually agreed to part company.

Rangers lie one off the bottom of the Evo-Stik Premier Division after yesterday's 5-2 home thrashing by Rushall Olympic.

The statement added: "Jon Downing has taken up the role as Director of Football with immediate effect.

"His first task will be to appoint a new football manager.

"Until further news is announced, we thank you for your patience.

"The board would also like to thank the supporters for their continued support through this challenging time."

Mutch, who enjoyed seven years at Molineux and formed one half of a prolific strike partnership with Steve Bull, only took over the Rangers job in?September after Gleg Clowes was sacked following a dismal start to the season.
