West Brom welcome Newcastle United to The Hawthorns today in search of picking up three points for the first time since a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace back in November. Newcastle won the previous meeting this season 2-1 despite Albion grabbing an equaliser through Chris Brunt. Moussa Sissoko's strike helped condemn Steve Clarke to leaving West Brom.

Wolves travel to Tranmere looking to move back into the automatic promotion places in League One. The Molineux men slipped down to third after a 1-1 draw with league leaders Leyton Orient.

Walsall take on Sheffield United, the same side that defeated Tranmere 3-1. The Saddlers came within touching distance of victory at Gillingham before a late Cody McDonald strike earned a point for the home side. Sheffield United have had a revival under boss Nigel Clough and are on a current seven match unbeaten league run.

Aston Villa will be spending New Year in the north east as they travel to Gus Poyet's Sunderland. The Black Cats picked a draw away to Cardiff as Villa themselves drew at home to Swansea. Villa are currently five points clear of the relegation zone and will be keen to extend that distance by defeating bottom side Sunderland.
