Stale Solbakken’s eagerly-awaited arrival has upped the stakes for Molineux’s youngsters according to teenage midfielder Anthony Forde.
The 18-year-old Irish age group international is enjoying the benefits of a new three-year deal which ties him to the club until 2015.
And he admits he and his contemporaries will relish the chance to stake their claim for first-team consideration when Solbakken gets to work with the squad for the first time next month.
“We’ve got a new manager at the club and I think every player will be looking to come back and impress in pre-season,” said Forde.
“That applies to the young players as well. A few of us managed to get a chance last season and we will all be coming back to try and get some games again next year.
“But I know it will be difficult. There are a lot of very good players at the club and competition for places will be tough.
“I just need to carry on working hard and trying to impress and hopefully I can be there or thereabouts.”
Forde made his breakthrough with a first Premier League start against Arsenal at the Emirates last season.
And the one-time Academy starlet added: “I was very pleased to sign the new deal towards the end of last season. I think it always gives you a confidence boost and it’s just that added security.”

I'd like to see some youngsters get some time on the pitch this season. Maybe not base our team around them, but have them as first choice replacements so they get 10-15 games (including cups). Batth, Doherty, Gorman, Ismail, Forde, Davis and Cassidy. We have a promising lad in each position so buy a few more starters and bring in the kids throughout the season.

Lets be honest mick really let the young kids down, prefering going out and signing players like big George, ward, surman, hill and ect ect
If we don't start playing some of these lads we will end up loosening them

It's so good to see a bunch of young players coming through the ranks like Forde, Davis and Batth who are so eager to play for Wolves. Let's hope Stale gives them a chance.

A new start with a new young manager who should have a clean slate.
If the boys are good enough they ought to be part of the team.
Looking forward to a lot of wins this forthcoming season.

No.1 Daniel - spot on, agree 100% with everything you said. Looking forward to a new season with a new manager and a fresh start. Hope we sign Sigurdasson and a few more quality players to mesh with likes of Hennessey, Zubar, Henry, Kightly, Doyle, SEB etc who, with the terrific crop of youngsters we have champing at the bit, bodes well. Quite right about Mick. The kids never had a chance with him in charge, well only the ones of Irish descent.
I, for one, never wanted that man as manager and prayed for him to be sacked. he is so limited in his tactical ability and completely out of his depth at the higher level. His record at Sunderland and Wolves is proof of this.
I was willing to accept relegation if it was the only way of getting shut of him.Unfortunately it happened that way but at least the only way is up now. Let us hope that some kick and rush League 1 or 2 team will give Mick a jobwill give him a job so that his mate Connor will follow him, or if not, then Stale (Stoller) will see through him and put him in charge of making the touchline whitewash.

Just hope pushes Zele Ismal on. Would hate to see a repeat of the Mark Davies saga again

What age is the lad Ismail?

Knowing Solbakken; If the youngsters are good enough, they will play. More concerned about the hyping og Sigurdarsson. Not what we should be looking for. No proven goalscorer. 7 in 11 is no measure long term....

Hopefully the kids will get a chance I for one would put Danny Baath straight in the squad he had a great season for Wednesday and their fans really rate him and hopefully Stearman Ward etc can be sold .

We had a number of good young players throughout the years, Keane and Lescott easily top of the pile - just a disappointment that their ambitions out ran those of the team.
Time to start it rolling again. At the very least the worst thing is to have money in the bank from selling them on.

after watching the Euro's I think our irish recruitment office should be quietly shut down. Looking forward to our talent scouts being told to look at a broader market than Mick seemed to let them.
Jake
Lee, if they are/were good enough they will play, if they aint, they wont.
simon
has anyone seen roy keanes comments on the irish team. he singles out the likes of doyle, hunt, ward and said that they shouldnt have been picked due to having a really bad season and poor form coming into the Euros.
Mick continued to pick these players regardless of their form. I'm sure salbakken will have his favourites too but lets hope he comes in with fresh eyes and looks at how they perform rather that their so called experience, name or price tag.
Forde, davis, vokes are definately worth giving a chance in this league over Edwards, doyle, hunt etc

totally agree we do need the youngsters to come threw ie;batth'forde.cassidy'even hammill who mick did not give a chance so come on stale give them a chance
Sir Billy Quiet
We all have our favourite players (and those we don't rate!) but lets get behind the manager and team whoever he picks.
Its a fresh start for everyone.
Looking forward to the fixtures - hoping for a home match first game.

Sid
We do not need youngsters we need good quality experienced players to get us back where we belong above the boggies.
Sid
Leeds away first game it sounds like and should be a prem fixure.Looks like the boggies will be bottom again after a few matches.

I am sure Staale will give every one a chance, i hope he's seen Danny Batth playing for the Owls as well. Also i hope Hamill is given a fair crack at it,when at Barnsley he scored quite often considering his position, and made plenty of assist's.COME ON THE WOLVES.

18 - Yes, it should be a top flight fixture, Sid. Wolves v Leeds was always one to look out for, going right back to the early 70's. Always a controversial game, both on and off the pitch...
PeteNuts
Sid, are you saying "you'll never win anything with kids"?
Rob willenhall
we have got too get shut of a few players fast the ones that let us down so badly last season we know and they know who they are ,yes get some young kids in the team if they a good enough give them the chance i think Jarvis , Fletcher , Doyle plus a few more are likely too leave soon so that gives us room for new stock thats what it needs every season freshen the team up abit , the only thing is if we give the younger players a go and we don get results they [ fans ] will turn on the manager and moxey and that could be bad for us
Sid
Pete@21 yes i am we are not manchester utd look how west ham struggled last season with a team of internationals you will not get out of championship with kids.
