Stafford Rangers today landed utility man Matthew Bell on a month's loan from Mansfield - as they wait for an answer from Crewe's Kelvin Mellor.

Bell, who can play in midfield or anywhere on the left flank, will meet up with his new team-mates for the first time at tonight's training session.

And the 19-year-old, who turns 20 in the New Year, could be joined by his Mellor, who is set for a second spell on loan at Marston Road.

Rangers boss Greg Clowes expects a call from the defensive midfielder today, with the League Two side set to green light the move.

Clowes had him on loan at his previous club, Newcastle Town, before the 20-year-old came to Rangers last year and has spoken to the player.

The manager said: "I have spoken to Crewe and to Kelvin as well, because I know him personally.

"I have worked with him and I have a really good relationship with him.

"He's been on the bench and the fringes of the first-team all season, he needs to go out and get games now to keep his fitness.

"I think Crewe are more than happy for him to come, that's the impression they give me but he's got to want to come.

"I am hoping he comes to us and the decision lies with Kelvin."

Another Crewe player, Andy White, was on loan at Rangers earlier this season before returning to his parent club with a knee injury.

White has only just recovered and Clowes believes the left-back wants to stay put rather than return for a third month.

He said: "Crewe and Andy are aware that we would love to take him back, but it doesn't like it's going to happen.

"At this moment in time, I think Andy just wants to stick around and get a few reserve games at Crewe.

"He's been out with this injury, which turned out to be a little bit longer than expected, but the offer is there."
