Stafford Rangers have released defender Jason Beardsley after just one appearance and two weeks at Marston Road.

Beardsley was dropped from the squad for last Saturday's FA Trophy defeat at Chester and will not be a part of tonight's training session.

The former Derby County, Notts County and Macclesfield right-back will not be coming back, either, after manager Greg Clowes confirmed his exit.

Clowes was critical of his display in his only start for the club, a Staffordshire Senior Cup loss at Leek last Tuesday night.

The Rangers boss told him he was out of the squad for the Chester game and the two have now gone their separate ways.

But Clowes has wished him well as the 22-year-old looks for another club.

He said: "There were no fingers pointed or anything, it was amicable enough but he's no longer a signed player of this football club.

"I hope he finds what he wants out of football, I mean that, because he's obviously got something.

"I don't hold a grudge against the lad and I hope he finds a club where he can settle down."
