Matt Gallett grabs spot in World Youth
Monday 31st October 2011, 6:00AM GMT.
Birmingham’s Matt Gallett swept through the qualifying field to grab a spot at the PDC World Youth Championships.
The 21-year-old from Bromford will be one of the 64 when the tournament proper begins in Crawley on Friday, after a virtuoso performance yesterday afternoon.
Gallett took on Stafford’s Ryan Harrington in a cracking first round at Rileys Sports Bar, Wolverhampton, in a see-saw battle that went to 3-3 before a decisive fourth leg.
That took him through to face Walsall’s Matthew Dennant in the semi-finals and that’s when Gallett upped his game, in a comprehensive 4-1 win.
But Gallett saved his best to take on the much-fancied Telford’s Sam Hamilton in the final, shutting his opponent out 4-0 in a shutout in the tournament best of seven legs.
