Paul Ince won’t back Roy Hodgson

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson added a new dimension to the career of former Wolves captain Paul Ince.

But the former Wolves ‘Guv’nor’ insists his ties are too close with the gold and black half of the Black Country to ever think of siding with the Hawthorns head coach on Sunday.

Hodgson took Ince to Inter Milan from Manchester United in 1995 and the pair became friends in their two years in Italy together, leading the side to the 1997 UEFA Cup final.

The Baggies gaffer even described Ince as “the only star in a team of machines” at Inter, while the future Blackburn managers were linked as a possible ‘dream team’ managerial partnership at Derby a few years ago.

But, despite the respect Ince still retains for his old boss, it does not run as deep as the former England international’s affection for Wolves.

He said: “Hopefully Wolves get the right result. I hope they win but it’s hard for me because Roy Hodgson is a friend of mine.”
