Harriers could seal deadline day deal

Kidderminster Harriers could sneak in one last signing to further bolster their squad before the transfer window slams shut.

Harriers currently boast a 22-man squad, the highest number for years at Aggborough, with no injury doubts before the trip to Wrexham on Saturday.

But the Express & Star understands that manager Steve Burr is still in touch with transfer targets, ahead of the 11pm deadline tonight.

Any potential deal would be a ‘bonus’ signing and, if no new additions are made, Burr will press on and possibly move when the loan window opens next month.

And one of his current charges, attacker Luke Medley, has vowed to be ready for the call when the chance comes for him to start his second game of the season.

Medley has had to make do with a bit-part role since signing from Mansfield in the summer, appearing in five of the first six matches as a substitute.

The 22-year-old returned to the bench as Harriers won 3-1 at Newport on Bank Holiday Monday, after starting last Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Southport at Aggborough.

But Medley insists he has only been spurred on by being dropped and plans to work hard to get back in the team.

He said: “You have to be ready because someone could get injured in the first minute. You have to make sure you are ready to come on at any time.

“We’ve got a big squad and the gaffer has mixed it around, its worked and you have to respect the manager’s decision.”

Harriers are third in the Blue Square Premier table today, ahead of Saturday’s game at the Racecourse Ground.

With that in mind, Medley expects the team to beat Wrexham and stabilise their position at the top of the division.

He said: “We can’t be scared of anyone – we are where we are.

“We have been playing well away from home and I am sure we will go to Wrexham to get the three points.”
