Thorne and Baker in England squad
Wednesday 29th June 2011, 9:20AM BST.
Albion midfielder George Thorne was today named in England’s 21-man squad for the FIFA under-20 World Cup with Villa pair Nathan Baker and Gary Gardner.
Head coach Brian Eastick has also called up Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland who, along with Thorne, helped England to win the European under-17 Championships last summer.
The Midlands quartet will travel to Colorado in the United States for a 10-day training camp on July 14, before they move on to Colombia for their opening game of the tournament against North Korea in Medellin on July 29.
England’s second group match sees them pitted against six-time under-20 world champions Argentina, before the squad head north to Cartagena for their final game of the group stage against Mexico.
