Chris McPhee breaks Harriers silence

Kidderminster Harriers star Chris McPhee today broke his silence on his future by revealing he plans to speak to clubs over the next two weeks.

Last season’s 18-goal top scorer returned from his summer holiday this week and his plans for the next campaign will be at the top of the agenda.

The 28-year-old’s hopes of staying at Harriers, where he has spent the two years, appear to be diminishing after manager Steve Burr brought in three new strikers this summer, bolstering his forward line to six.

McPhee can also play in midfield and at centre-back but was the highest earner at Aggborough last season and, as Harriers plan to increase their squad to in advance of 20 players, is unlikely to be offered similar wages.

Football League new-boys Crawley and League Two club Hereford both came in for McPhee last season but the player rejected both moves, although he could be more responsive this time around.

His former boss at Harriers, Mark Yates, is a keen admirer and brought him to Aggborough, making a switch to Cheltenham another possibility.

And McPhee is now ready to start speaking to clubs about next season.

He said: “I will see what happens in a couple of weeks, I will speak to clubs that want to speak to me and, whatever takes my fancy and what’s ideal for my family, I will have to sort out.

“But nothing has been set in stone, no offers have been made or put on the table and I can’t say I have been speaking to anyone in particular.

“Once things start moving along, I can focus on speaking to some clubs in depth in the next couple of weeks.”

Harriers have made a change to their pre-season fixture list, with Shrewsbury replacing Bristol Rovers on July 26.

League One side Rovers have double booked the date with Championship club Reading, but still offered to send a weakened team to Aggborough.

However, Harriers want to face the strongest opposition possible so have arranged a friendly with the Shrews, managed by former Wolves boss Graham Turner, who finished fourth in League Two last season.
