16:55: Another great day for Albion ends with a win in the West Midlands derby against Villa at the Hawthorns, their first victory over the claret and blues in 26 years is another milestone for boss Roy Hodgson.
Villa had led through a calamitous own goal from Abdoulaye Meite but the on-form Peter Odemwingie equalised, before Youssouf Mulumbu snatched the victory for the Baggies with the match-winner five minutes from time.
It was an equally pleasing day for Walsall as they took a big step towards League One safety with a win over Charlton at the Banks’s Stadium today, while relegation rivals Bristol Rovers and Plymouth both failed to win.
And tomorrow’s it’s the big one for Wolves in another West Midlands derby, their Premier League future hangs in the balance with a potentially-crucial trip to St Andrew’s to play Birmingham in a high-noon showdown.

16:39: GOAL! Albion have turned the tables on Villa in the West Midlands derby! The 10-man Baggies are ahead at the Hawthorns after Youssouf Mulumbu’s goal.
16:33: GOAL! Walsall are about to take a massive stride towards safety in League One – Julian Gray’s goal has surely sealed the win for the Saddlers as they go 2-0 up against Charlton.
16:33: Wigan have conceded a damaging equaliser and it’s one of their former stars that has come back to haunt them – Leighton Baines. His penalty, after Hugo Rodallega’s handball, has hauled Everton level.
16:28: It’s not getting any better for Sunderland – they are now 3-0 down at home to Fulham after Simon Davies’ second goal of the game at the Stadium of Light.
16:17: RED CARD! So much for Paul Scharner netting the winner in Albion’s West Midlands derby against Villa today, he’s been sent off! It’s a second booking after a grapple with Stiliyan Petrov.
16:16: Sunderland have given themselves a mountain to climb after going two goals behind at the Stadium of Light, Simon Davies with the goal.
16:15: GOAL! It’s all square in the West Midlands derby! Albion are back level on the hour and there’s no stopping Peter Odemwingie, who gets his 14th goal of the season, finding the net for a fourth game in a row.
16:00: Second-half around the grounds across the country.
15:45: Half-time around the grounds across the country.
15:34: GOAL! Walsall have grabbed a vital lead in their relegation showdown against Charlton, the Banks’s Stadium goes wild after Will Grigg’s goal for the Saddlers.
15:33: Sunderland continue to drop like a stone and, once again, they are behind after Fulham take the lead at the Stadium of Light, Gael Kakuta’s smart finish puts the visitors ahead.
15:21: Now Wigan are doing their bit to pull away from the Premier League drop zone, Charles N’Zogbia has put the Latics ahead against Everton at the DW Stadium.
15:20: Blackburn have struck the first blow in the race to avoid relegation from the Premier League today, Martin Olsson has fired Rovers into a 20th minute lead against Bolton at Ewood Park.
15:05: GOAL! Deadlock is broken after just five minutes of the West Midlands derby at the Hawthorns – by Villa! Albion fall behind at home after a comical own goal from Aboulaye Meite, turning Stewart Downing’s cross in.
15:00: Kick-off around the grounds across the country in the 3pm games.
14:45: Good news for Walsall in the early League One kick-off as relegation rivals Plymouth are beaten in the Devon derby at Exeter, after James Dunne scores the only goal of the game a minute into the second-half.
Plymouth still have a game in hand, at home to Southampton on Monday, but the Pilgrims are three points behind Walsall before the Saddlers have even kicked off today.
14:45: Leeds keep their play-off hopes alive in the early Championship kick-off with a one-goal victory over Burnley at Elland Road, thanks to Ross McCormack’s 33rd minute winner. Simon Grayson’s men are three points off the top six going into the 3pm kick-offs.
14:30: It’s derby weekend for our Premier League teams in the region as Albion and Villa get us started this afternoon, as the two West Midlands rivals lock horns at the Hawthorns.
Albion boss Roy Hodgson has yet to be beaten in any sort of derby in his time at the club but Villa do hold a victory over the Baggies this season, in the reverse fixture last December.
But the visitors will again come into the game without manager Gerard Houllier, who is still recovering from heart problems, so assistant boss Gary McAllister will be the man in charge in the away dugout today.
Tomorrow it’s the second West Midlands derby of the weekend as Wolves, fighting for their Premier League lives, go to St Andrew’s to play a Birmingham team nearly safe, but on the back of a hammering after shipping five at Liverpool last Saturday.
Defeat, after losing by three goals in three of their last four games, is unthinkable for Wolves manager Mick McCarthy and would leave his side with one foot in the grave come next Sunday’s Black Country derby – and Albion would like nothing better than to seal their doom.
And let’s not forget how high the stakes are for Walsall, who sit a point above the safety line looking to pull off the Great Escape in League One.
With the right run of results today, they could consign Dagenham & Redbridge and Bristol Rovers to the drop – although Plymouth could still catch them.
However, all pales into insignificance if the Saddlers cannot overcome formidable opposition in Charlton at the Banks’s Stadium this afternoon, in what is their penultimate game of the season.
