Canham’s Harriers loan is cut short

Striker Sean Canham has had his loan cut short at Kidderminster Harriers so he can return to assist Hereford’s fight to stay in the Football League.

His loan was due to run until Harriers’ last game of the season, at home to Histon on Saturday, but Canham was back at Edgar Street today after being recalled by the Bulls.

Hereford’s Football League future still hangs in the balance, while Harriers have missed the play-offs, so Bulls boss Jamie Pitman wants all of his firepower available for the game that could ensure their safety, at home to Bradford on Saturday.

Canham leaves Aggborough with two goals in 13 appearances but is popular with fans and manager Steve Burr alike for his hard-working performances leading the line, leaving a return to the club in the future a possibility.

Burr will also be keeping a keen eye on Hereford’s situation, as he waits to see who will be joining the Blue Square Premier next season from the league above.

Stockport and Barnet currently occupy the relegation places but could still escape the drop, with everybody down from 15th in League Two still in danger.

Well-resourced clubs Alfreton and Braintree are also joining the Premier as champions from the Blue Square North and South respectively, with only moneybags Crawley confirmed as leaving the division.

And Burr is expecting the race for promotion to be even harder in 2011-12, after what has been a fierce race for the play-offs this season that only ended on Monday.

AFC Wimbledon, Luton, Wrexham and Fleetwood will compete for the second promotion spot and the Harriers boss admits it will pan out with three tough teams left behind in the league.

He said: “This is a very, very hard league to get out of and it will be even tougher next season, with the teams that are likely to join the division.

“Whether it’s Stockport, Barnet, Northampton, Lincoln, Cheltenham – they are teams that have been in the Football League for a number of years.

“And, unfortunately, only two clubs go up from this division.”
