Matt Elliott targets Rangers signings
Monday 28th March 2011, 8:30AM BST.
Stafford Rangers boss Matt Elliott has reacted to defeat at Eastwood by turning his attentions to adding to his squad before Thursday’s non-league transfer deadline.
Rangers’ 3-0 loss in Nottinghamshire on Saturday saw them slip back into the relegation places – after survival rivals Hyde picked up a point at Alfreton – ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Guiseley.
Elliott has now set his sights on further signings, after adding Grant Goodhead and Sean Kinsella to his ranks last week.
But the manager is considering shying sway from the loan market due to Rangers’ precarious position in the Blue Square North and wants battle-hardened competitors for the vital run-in.
Money is also tight at Marston Road after the playing budget was cut by 40 per cent, although Elliott is still hoping to add further numbers.
He said: “The transfer deadline is creeping up and I am aware that we need bodies between now and the end of the season.
“I am trying to cover as many positions as possible, the budget situation at the club doesn’t help but I am in touch with one or two people with a view to coming in, pretty much as squad members.
“Who knows how many players we are going to need between now and the end of April? Hopefully, it will only be 16, but I very much doubt that.
“It’s important that we have the right numbers available.”
