Wolves come first for Michael Kightly
Thursday 24th March 2011, 10:45AM GMT.
Michael Kightly has insisted he is happy to sit out the season if it means Wolves stay up.
The flying winger returned to the squad for the first time in 15 months for Saturday’s vital 1-0 win at Villa, which moved Wolves within two goals of safety with eight games left.
Kightly didn’t get off the bench but was delighted to be back involved and is content to take a back seat.
He said: “At the end the gaffer shook my hand and just said ‘welcome back.’
“But it’s not about Michael Kightly getting 15-20 minutes – it’s about Wolves getting three points and creeping up that table.
“If we play like that for the next eight games then I’ll take sitting on the bench and not coming on!
“It’s been a long time and it’s been great to be back out there with the boys. I was buzzing that we won.
“It would have been nice to get on but with the circumstances of the game it probably wasn’t right. I’ve got no problem with that.”
The 25-year-old also believes fellow Wolves winger Matt Jarvis is ready to make the most of his England call-up, after being selected in the squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales and the friendly with Ghana.
Kightly said: “Now he’s got his foot in the door, he’ll be trying to grab the opportunity to show what he can do.
“The form he’s been in over the last couple of years has been frightening, so good luck to him.”
The pair terrorised the Championship when Wolves won the title in 2008-09 and Kightly, who has won seven England under-21 caps, is delighted for his team-mate.
He said: “When I saw ‘Jarvo’ had made it into the squad I was absolutely made up for him, as was everybody in the club. He fully deserves to be there because he’s worked his socks off over the last few years.
“We’ve both been here for quite a while now and it’s always nice to see someone you’re close to do so well. We’re all wishing him all the best and hoping he impresses.
“It couldn’t have happened to a nicer person.”

If it wasn’t for injuries, who’s to say Kites wouldn’t be in the England frame too?
Here’s looking forward to you pulling on that famous Old Gold shirt again, kid.
UP THE WOLVES!!!

Not to worry Kites, pleanty of Premiership games next season.
Why I am at it, where are all the whiners from earlier in the season?

With Hunt still out there’s still a chance. Hammill seems to always get taken off eventually which I put down to exhaustion and Jarvis too at times. Like the Villa game this meant we finished with no wingers however if we were trailing this wouldn’t have been an option. This is when Kightly comes in. A super sub that can and has created goals out of nothing before. Id rather have Kightly on the wing when we’re trailing a game rather than Edwards, Doyle or Foley.

If he doesn’t play again this season, then what the heck? It’s like a close-season signing with no outlay. Everyone’s a winner. And it’s spring!

Pete, It will be good to have him back. But every one a winner? We will have paid him over one million quid in the last 18 months and he has not kicked a ball for the first time. No wonder my season ticket is so expensive. At the same time Kites career has come to a halt.Let us hope this time next year they are talking about Kightly joining Jarvis in the England squad.

Don’t you worry Jake the whiners are out there sitting in the wings waiting for the slightest slip up and then BANG,,,,, They WILL be back!

Looking forward to watching Kites next season once he has had a good pre-season, really don’t want him to pick up a knock before the end of this season. I fancy 10 – 15 goals next year out of Kightley anyone with me?

6 Chris Hoggard:-
If you were to have suffered an injury at work, then the least you would expect is full pay until fully recovered. Why is Kites any different?
£1 million is small fry compared to the likes of a certain squad located 75 miles away up the M6.
Rooney gets £160,000 per week plus add ons.

5 – chris, he didn’t want to injured and spend much of those months on the sidelines. This is football with money you and I can only dream of – but we, as fans, have bought into it. At least, as Dave says, we don’t pay the ludicrous wages some clubs do. As you say, however, it will be good to have him back.

As long as we stay up – carry on playing as we are and we definitely will – things are looking great for the famous Wolves.
Look at what we currently have and who is there as cover and a few missing pieces to the jigsaw and we need to be looking at mid-table next season:-
Hennessey Hahnemann
Foley Zubar
Elokobi ?
Berra Mouyokolo
Stearmen Mancienne
Henry Guedioura
O’Hara Edwards
Milijas ?
Hammill Kites
Jarvis Hunt
Doyle SEB Fletcher
??
So 4 signings should do it plus Mancienne!

5)Chris Hoggard. Saw you have a whinge on the last thread about the cost of season tickets. Sorry, but, mine was a bit cheaper being as I remember Harry Hooper, Bobby Mason, Eddie Clamp & Co.
However you and Dave Webb (8) bring up a good question. With the player’s salaries so high, is there insurance against long term injuries, or does that only come if they don’t make it back. Anybody know ?
Jez, we know you have a sneaky look at this sight, what’s the answer ?

@5 Dave Hoggard
Think of it as a slightly over-extravagant signing-on fee.

Dave Webb – I’d see this more as sick pay. Half pay after 6 months me thinks :) only joking.
Kights will be an important player for us in the future whatever league we are in. This season I would stick with what we have already and not certainly start him, maybe give him a run out in last few mins of games we are comfortable in winning (as if lol)
Over all I pray we stay up, if nothing else to watch our brill wingers in action. Jarvis, Hammil, Kights, Hunt………. Awesome. I fear this will change if we go down. Add O’Hara and Milijas…… what a midfield.
I firmly believe we are better than some in that league and I dont think we will go down. Mark my words, going into the last 2 matches we will already be safe! I doubted for a while this season but the way we play will give us results between now and the end, no matter who we play.

PeteNuts, Ahh springtime, its the time of year that you laze away in the beer garden supping a pint of ale reading the E&S about the Wolves comings and goings with the sound of birds tweeting in the background, you just cant beat England at springtime.
PS, BrummieRobWolves No10 what about Wardy?

1 To a no above. Hey I am not saying Kites should not get paid. What I am saying is his injury has certainly not been good news.
2 Bertie, Met up with an old work colleague the other day,his season ticket for a Championship Midlands side costs him £140.Told him mine was more expensive because of the better football.
3 Pete Nuts, Who is Dave Hoggard? Is this one the old woman has not told me about?

14) Did not want to risk the wrath of Wolves fans but he will be here next year mate. I am not sure about Mouyokolo!

I’m sure Moxey has tight control over everyone’s contract details. With his generous spirit its any wonder injured players get paid at all.

@15
Dave Hoggard is a figment of my imagination, who tells me when it is time to go to the Newhampton.
