Birmingham wait on David Bentley injury news
Thursday 10th March 2011, 11:29AM GMT.
Birmingham were today sweating on the fitness of David Bentley after climbing out of the Premier League relegation zone at Everton.
Jean Beausejour’s 17th-minute header gave Blues the point that lifted them out of the bottom three with a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.
But it came at a cost as Bentley was forced off after just eight minutes with a groin problem, joining Barry Ferguson, Craig Gardner, Alexander Hleb, Kevin Fahey and Scott Dann on the injured list.
Nikola Zigic was also deemed only fit enough for a place on the bench last night and boss Alex McLeish must now decide whether to rest any of his regulars for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Bolton.
“David came in before the warm-up was finished saying that he felt a twinge but felt he could start, but clearly he wasn’t OK,” McLeish said. “So it will probably be a scan for him and we’ll know the extent on Friday.”
The result took Blues to 31 points and they leapfrogged West Ham on goal difference.
