16:55: It’s been a quiet day for our teams in the region with the focus on tomorrow’s Black Country derby and Birmingham encountered little trouble easing past Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup, taking an early lead and never looking back.
Walsall are improving but have suffered a setback in their fight against relegation from League One with defeat at Colchester, a goal in each half seeing off the Saddlers.
Villa are not in action this weekend but will found out who their opponents will be in the FA Cup fifth round tomorrow, when Manchester City and League One Notts County replay at Eastlands.
But before that comes the big one – the Sunday high-noon derby showdown between Albion and Wolves at the Hawthorns.
Follow all the action from tomorrow’s Black Country blockbuster right here on Expressandstar.com.
16:50: Full-time around the grounds across the country.
16:11: GOAL! It’s going to be a long way back for Walsall now after they go 2-0 behind to a penalty at Colchester, given for Aaron Lescott’s challenge on Ian Henderson, with David Mooney coverting the spot kick.
16:08: GOAL! Birmingham have pretty much sealed victory over Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup early in the second-half at St Andrew’s after taking a 3-0 lead, David Murphy with the goal.

15:43: Stoke appeared to have their FA Cup tie against League One Brighton all sown up by half-time, defender Ryan Shawcross has just put the Potters 3-0 up.
15:22: It’s a long way back for League One Brighton now as they fall two goals behind away from home in the FA Cup at Stoke, Jonathan Walters with the second of the game at the Britannia Stadium.
15:18: GOAL! Walsall needed to start well away from home but Colchester have an early lead in the League One game at the Community Stadium, David Perkins with the goal for the hosts.
15:17: GOAL! Birmingham have made it an uphill battle for Sheffield Wednesday now after taking a two goal lead with less than 20 minutes gone and it’s another first – on-loan striker Obafemi Martins’ first goal for the club.
15:15: It’s over at Stamford Bridge and after two games, extra time and penalties we have a winner in the FA Cup fourth round tie between Chelsea and Everton – and the reigning Premier League champions are out.
The two teams did it all again after a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park three weeks ago and it was goalless going into extra time before Frank Lampard’s opener, with Leighton Baines’ equaliser coming with just a minute to go.
It came to penalties with Phil Neville the Everton hero after converting the winner, after Ashley Cole had blazed his spot kick over the crossbar. Nicolas Anelka also missed for Chelsea, while Baines saw his effort saved by goalkeeper Petr Cech.
15:14: On-loan Villa striker John Carew has fired Stoke ahead in their FA Cup fifth round tie against Britannia Stadium, the Norway international breaks the deadlock with his second goal for the club.
15:06: GOAL! Birmingham take a vital early advantage against League One Sheffield Wednesday and it’s quite a moment for Jean Beausejour, who has scored his first goal for Blues.
15:00: Kick off around the grounds across the country in the 3pm kick-offs.
14:30: It’s a mish mash of fixtures for our teams in the region today, with Birmingham the only West Midlands presence in the fifth round of the FA Cup this afternoon with ex-Albion boss Gary Megson and League One Sheffield Wednesday visiting St Andrew’s.
Wednesday’s league rivals Walsall continue their survival fight away from home at Colchester, having moved to within three points of the safety line with a win over relegation rivals Dagenham & Redbridge in midweek.
Villa are not in action this weekend due to the FA Cup and must wait until tomorrow to find out who they will play in the fifth round, when Premier League Manchester City host League One Notts County in a replay.
But all eyes tomorrow will be on the first-ever Premier League Black Country derby, with the Hawthorns the scene for the high-noon showdown between Albion and Wolves.
