Your say on the match action
Sunday 30th January 2011, 12:36PM GMT.
Expressandstar.com bring you the news from our teams around the region and across the country.
1557: Thanks for following the live ‘fans forum’ today. Wolves won’t be in the draw for the 5th round of the FA Cup, but they will have Jamie O’Hara as a consolation prize. Villa and Blues fans, we’ll have the draw online soon so keep your eyes peeled.
See you again soon.
1556: Notts County have drawn 1-1 with moneybags Man City and West Ham have beaten Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Upton Park.
1549: Cup upset is over. Edin Dzeko has equalised for Man City against Notts Forest.
1518: Blimey, Notts County have gone 1-0 up against Man City. Neal Bishop scores for the Magpies. Half an hour left for an upset.
1514: Eric Obinna completes his hat-trick with a penalty as he puts West Ham back in front at Upton Park. Sounds like a cracking game there.
1511: Here’s Tim Nash’s match report straight from Molineux.
1504: For those of you in the comments asking about Kevin Doyle, he was replaced by Stephen Ward today because he’s been ill.
1500: Stay with us for news of any second-half goals at West Ham and Notts County.
Wolves fans: Follow us on Twitter or join our Facebook page for more news on the black and gold.
1456: A little bit of good news to sugercoat this defeat – Jamie O’Hara has joined Wolves on loan until the end of the season.
1453: The full-time whistle goes and it’s a kick in the teeth for Wolves. They were the better side in the second half and had the perfect opportunity to level the scores in stoppage time with a penalty, but couldn’t take it. Wolves are out of the FA Cup.
1451: Oh no, Nenad Milijas takes the penalty, but Thomas Sorensen saves it. Still Wolves 0 Stoke 1.
1450: SAVED BY SORENSEN
1449: Huth committed the foul in the box and Stoke are finall punished. Nenad Milijas steps up…
1449: PENALTY TO WOLVES
1449: Four minutes of added on time.
1448: Close for Wolves. Matt Jarvis puts in a good corner and Sam Vokes gets his head on it, but it’s straight at Thomas Sorensen.
1447: Wolves have a corner, with less than two minutes left of normal time.
1445: The goals are flying in at Upton Park. David McGoldrick sticks Nottingham Forest in front and less than two minutes later Victor Obinna scored his, and West Ham’s second, to level the scores again.
1444: Mick McCarthy rolls the dice and sends on Sam Vokes for Stephen Ward. Can Wolves find an equaliser?
1441: There didn’t seem to be too many in attendance at Molineux today and the announcer confirms it. Just 11,967 at the ground today.
1439: It’s a goal, but it’s gone to Stoke. With less than ten minutes to go, Stoke get a free-kick and whip it in towards Robert Huth who heads it into the back of the Wolves net.
Wolves 0 Stoke 1
1438: Another good chance for Wolves. Matt Jarvis gets his shot away in a crowded box, but there are too many bodies in the way and it bounces off Ward and goes out for a goal kick.
1435: Robert Huth is having a good game at the back for Stoke. Everytime Wolves come forward, he seems to be there to hook it away.
1434: Substitution for Wolves. Steven Fletcher comes off and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is on.
1433: Big chances for Stoke City. Marcus Hahnemann makes a flying save from Matthew Etherington and it’s out for a corner.
1430: Shout of handball in the box against Zubar from the Stoke fans, but it’s hooked out and just a throw-in for Stoke. Rory Delap runs from right-back to the left-wing position to take it.
1428: Tony Pulis makes his final substitution as Kenwyne Jones is replaced by Ricardo Fuller. Wolves defended well against the threat of Carew and Jones today.
1425: Marc Wilson comes on for Stoke for Andy Wilkinson. Rory Delap goes to right-back where Matt Jarvis will surely fancy his chances against him.
1424: Dele Adebola, who I can’t quite believe is still playing, has equalised for Nottingham Forest at Upton Park.
1422: Yellow card for Ronald Zubar, who gives away a silly free-kick in the corner. Stoke get the big men forward, but it’s headed behind for a corner.
1419: Wolves are causing Stoke all sorts of problems now. Stoke just keep giving the ball away and Wolves have upped the tempo.
1416: Poor clearance from Thomas Sorensen and Matt Jarvis runs straight back at Stoke’s back four. He puts in a good cross, but Ward’s header at the back post lacks power and is saved.
1414: Wolves have five against four at the back, but Milijas gives the ball away. This game is picking up again now and Wolves are putting pressure on Stoke.
1413: Chance for Stephen Fletcher, who breaks free, but is flagged offside.
1410: West Ham have taken the lead against Nottingham Forest at Upton Park. Eric Obinna with the early goal.
1408: Penalty shout for Wolves as Robert Huth catches Berra square in the face with an elbow in the penalty area, but nothing from the referee.
1405: Nenad Milijas is taking some punishment from Stoke today – Jon Walters is booked for another poor tackle on the Serbian.
1404: Sensible substitution from Tony Pulis who brings on Glenn Whelan to replace Salif Diao, whose booking didn’t seem to be stopping him making rash challenges.
1403: And we’ve kicked off for the second half at Molineux too, where Wolves have 45 minutes to book their place in the 5th round.
1401: Underway at Meadow Lane, where Notts County entertain moneybags Man City.
1358: Brave performance from Huddersfield, but they’ve lost 2-1 at the Emirates and Arsenal put their name into the fifth round draw.
1349: And it’s half-time at Molineux. Chances at both ends, but it remains 0-0.
1348: Fabregas has scored that penalty for Arsenal, who now lead 2-1 against Huddersfield. A harsh one to concede for the underdogs as Bendtner goes down in the box under the faintest of touches from Jamie McCombe. Is the upset off?
1346: Another save by Marcus Hahnemann from Rory Delap and almost straight away the ball is given away by Karl Henry and Matthew Etherington runs into the box, but it goes out for a corner.
1346: Arsenal have a penalty at the Emirates.
1345: Two minutes of added on time at the end of the first half.
1344: Salif Diao comes in late on Milijas. He needs to be careful as he’s already had a yellow card.
1341: Clash of heads between Richard Stearman and Salif Diao. Always painful, but they should be ok to continue.
1337: Great ball in for Wolves and Steven Fletcher gets his head on it, but the ball hits the post and stays out.
1335: @Sheppy_wwfc is keeping a long-throw count on Stoke today. Up to seven now.
1331: Berra almost gets caught out taking one too many touches at the back and has to put it out for a throw. Which is practically as good as a corner for Rory Delap and Stoke.
1330: Goal at the Emirates. And it’s gone to…Huddersfield. Alan Lee levels the score with a header and with 25 minutes left of the game, an upset could be on the cards.
1325: Salif Diao picks up a yellow card for a rash challenge on Nenad Milijas. The defender has a long game ahead of him now.
1321: Becoming an open game now. John Carew breaks away, holds off the defender, but Marcus Hahnemann is equal to his shot.
1319: Chance for Wolves. Stephen Ward robs Faye and forces a save from Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen. Possibly should have done better there.
1317: Kenwyne Jones smashes Christophe Berra to the ground. Berra and Stearman will have a physical battle on their hands today with Jones and Carew up-front for Stoke.
1314: Confirmation of the substitution. David Edwards has come on for the injured Stephen Hunt. Matt Jarvis moves to the left-hand side and Edwards will line-up on the right.
1310: Bad news for Wolves. Stephen Hunt is pointing to his ankle and won’t be able to continue. David Edwards is waiting to come on and replace him. Let’s hope it’s not serious.
1308: It’s been a scrappy opening to the game – neither team have been able to take control of the game as yet.
1304: Rory Delap has just launched the first of what will no doubt be many long throws into the Wolves box this afternoon. It’s gone out for a corner.
1300: We’re underway at Molineux, with Wolves attacking the North bank.
1253: So John Carew will make his Stoke debut today – will Stearman and Berra be able to cope with the big Norwegian?
1246: It just got interesting over at the Emirates though – Arsenal have been reduced to ten men after Sebastien Squillaci was sent off for a block on Jack Hunt.
1242: The only FA Cup game in progress at the moment is Arsenal’s clash with League One side Huddersfield Town. The Gunners are leading 1-0 at the moment, after a goal from Nicklas Bendtner.
1239: And here is the Stoke side. According to the back pages, Abdoulaye Faye and Glenn Whelan will use today’s game to audition for a possible move to Wolves. Whelan will have to do so from the bench.
Sorensen, Wilkinson, Huth, Faye, Pugh, Walters, Diao, Delap, Etherington, Carew, Jones. Subs: Nash, Collins, Whelan, Fuller, Wilson, Pennant, Sanli.
1236: Team news is through from Wolves. Here’s how they line up – Hahnemann is back in goal in place of Wayne Hennessey, Karl Henry starts in midfield and Jody Craddock is on the bench.
Hahnemann, Zubar, Stearman, Berra, Elokobi, Jarvis, Henry, Milijas, Hunt, Ward, Fletcher. Subs: Hennessey, Edwards, Craddock, Ebanks-Blake, David Jones, Vokes, Mouyokolo.
1230: Good afternoon and welcome to our online ‘Fans Forum’ and follow the updates from Wolves’ FA Cup clash with Stoke City at Molineux this afternoon and we’ll also let you know as goals go in around the country.
After a great day for West Midlands clubs yesterday, with Walsall’s joy of six the outstanding result, find match reports below.

Very positive news about O Hara will be a big player for us,hope it happens, when Adlene gets fit cant see Henry getting a game.

Bad news about Hunt, hope it’s not too serious.

Agree with that, at last a signing that may make a difference, but can’t see MM playing him instead of Henry and at this moment in time i wouldn’t like to see Milijas dropped.
any know – is Doyle injured today.
Looks like Milijas is causing a problem or 2.
Seems like they are trying to kick him out of the game!
why is Ward playing up front?

5 Suffolkwolf:-
Dunno mate!
Perhaps MM as kept SEB on the bench,to come on later as an impact player?
Fresh legs against tired defence…..

C’mon Wolves, you’ve given them the runaround & they score on the break!
10 mins left to get an equaliser.
Useless again by the sounds of it. 1 shot on target says it all really.
I must share this with fellow Wolves supporters. I have been watching the paint dry on my kitchen door that I painted this afternoon. And it’s more interesting than the entertainment at Molineux today.
outplayed by Stoke at home. 1 shot on target to their 8. Its just a joke. Karl Henry – to slow and negative in possession. Berra – too slow for the premiership.

Only 11967 in attandance.I got a good excuse, whats yours?

Although I don’t care about the F.A Cup I’m concerned about our lack of ambition, transfer activity and inability to defend set peices. As much as I like McCarthy at the helm (and players love playing for him) this blind faith is costing us. He says our squad is good enough but look at where we are – it’s obviously not.
CAN WE AFFORD TO PASS UP GIFTS LIKE THIS?

A shambles again, we could not even find the net if there was no goalkeeper.
Total Crap.
Another defeat looming on Wednesday at Bolton.
The fans deserve better than this.
Typical. Cant even score from 12 yards out.
We are a total disaster. Another defeat. No goals again. Missed penalty.
No hope.
No reason to feel positive.
I just don’t enjoy this any more.
Painful.

If the magic of the FA Cup hadn’t gone from you, this game would have taken it.

Not good enough! We can’t keep clean sheets! We can’t score! We are not good enough.
Too many average players. All our rivals look to be strengthening their squads yet we show no real ambition.
Only 11,000 today. It’s a sign of things to come this season and next for as long as Mick is in charge, useless!
If he hadn’t have spent £30M in the transfer market maybe I’d give him a chance but he’s got no excuse! He’s not good enough.
Get Allardyce or O’Neill in so we consolidate as a premier league club and not be a yo yo team.
We cannot defend against free kicks why?
Beacuse we need two CB’s.
Which we are not going to get of course, because of the money he has wasted over two seasons.
Now we are missing Penalties, just gets worse.
He won’t be sacked of course, I do not agree about concentrating on the League, we should take these opportunities and build confidence and try new things, something McCarthy won’t do,

Dear Mr Moxey
Under 12000 fans for a midland derby FA cup game, does this tell you the fans no longer want to watch boring football provided by MM and his Championship side.
Please get rid of the tatical idiot with a left back up front MM. Two attempts on goal for a home team in a cup derby is shameful!
O’Hara for Henry at Bolton please!
I’ve frequently had a pop at MM’s ability as a manager on selection and tactics. Normally I’ve had to eat my words because the team have pulled off a good victory.
There is little doubt that he manages to inspire the team as they have always given 100%. I’ve now concluded that MM needs a top level coach to assist him. Someone who does not always agreed with his tactics. Just look at who Tony Pulis gets to help him.
I’m positive about O’Hara if it is true but we do need a LB and central defender. I think the club is settled on Championship football next season
Report abuse
No point getting too down about it. We always scrape through the third round (yes I know it was 5-0 but after a replay!) and lose poorly in the fourth!
On a more serious point, Huth’s goal reminds me of how little our centre halves contribute to the goal-scoring. After Jody’s purple patch at the beginning of last season, when was the last time one of our centre halves actually scored playing in that position. I don’t think Berra has scored at all!
I know we shouldn’t have to rely on them but it would help if they could get 4-6 a season.
£6m for Fletcher seeming more and more to be a pitiful waste of money!
Henry will NEVER be dropped from the team ever.
what a sham, id be off to west ham if i was O’hara

I wonder just how much more the club will continue down this this path of continuing abject failure , dwindling crowds and the championship , or beyond, beckoning before someone at the Mol finaly acknowledes that the current management team need changing very promply. Being a Wolves fan is such hard work and even more heartache. Oh well at least it wasn’t Chorley . But it feels like it.

I’ve been accused of being a happy clapper in the past, but I really am starting to get concerned with not only our performance today but in the transfer market in general. Signing O’Hara onloan with a view to a permanent deal is a good move, but I can’t see him being the saviour of our season… Hopefully I’ll be proved wrong!
We have been crying out for a PL standard left back and at least one PL class centre back from the start of last season, but we end up signing a forward (Who is probably not going to feature until at least next season) and (By the looks of it) 2 midfielders that would be more attacking midfielders than anything else. And only O’Hara with PL experience…
Saying that the club is well run and won’t take risks about it’s future is one thing, but when you see the money spent by some of the clubs in and around us in the league to bring in some quality, you really have to worry about the ambition being shown by the board and manager.
O’Hara must play instead of Henry. If Milijas gets dropped for O’Hara then it says it all really.
We are not good enough to play 4-4-2 either, only by packing the midfield will we stop conceding. It’s not like we score any goals, so what’s the point of playing two up front?
We have to get a least a point, ideally all three at Bolton, as I can’t see us getting anything form Man Utd and Arsenal.
With Allardyce and O’Neil both out of work we’ve missed an opportunity to bring in managers who have succeeded in this league and instead chosen to employ blind faith.
The attendances will continue to drop as this team and manager are not good enough.
Can anyone explain why Ward who we bought as a striker and who failed as such even at championship level, was played today ahead of SEB who we bought as a striker and was a very sucsessful one ( at championship level at least ), surely you should always play your strongest side? Does anyone really believe that Ward is a better striker than SEB?
What goes round comes round. The spat McCarthy had with Keane in The World Cup is why decent PL players won’t come to WWFC. There is a stigma attached to MM. We need to replace him with a manager who will attract the kind of player the once great club deserves. Not sure whether Big Sam or M O’N would do a better job. We need to act fast or the prospect of playing Brighton Next season is beconing……
Report abuse
Sell Doyle also 9 goals in 2 seasons what a joker…

Can’t see any improvement. I do believe that the club is resigned to lower league football to accomodate whatever financial plans Morgan has.
Clearly, Wolves are going nowhere at the mo. This is an unusual, but effective way to reduce crowd capacity in the event of building works. Morgan and Moxey probably expect a quick return to the Premier with, maybe, Mcarthy at the helm (as he’s ok at Championship level).
However, this is a gamble, but they know the strength of Wolves true supporters who will, generally, forget the bad times in replacement for the promise of investment and improvement. Well, this will prove to be a load of bolax!
I, personally, cannot continue to be taken for a mug. I have 2 season tickets, as I take my daughter. I have followed Wolves since 1961 (9 years old), and have been attending matches, home and away, since 1963.
My memories of Flowers, Knowles, Waggy, Bailey, Hibbit, Munro, Richards, Bully and Craddock are etched in my mind forever, but I cannot compromise their quality and integrity for a shambles of a management team that, quite frankly, takes the pi.s!
Sadly, I feel I need to take some time out.

I’ve got NOTHING to say, what’s the point?

Being on of the few unfortunate souls that went to the match on sunday, I wish to make a few points that I believe cannot be disputed.
playing Stephen Ward in preference of SEB is a disgrace. To then take Fletcher off and leave Ward on was at best tactically ridiculous, at worst an incredible show of arrogance from Mick McCarthy who now knows that his decisions are final and unchallenged from Steve Morgan.
The team look drained of any belief and rely on constantly looking to pass the ball backwards for the goalkeeper to hoof forward. The football is boring and totally lacks any sign of tactics or organisation. McCarthys record in the transfer market is abysmal. In the position that he played in, central defence he should have a certain degree of understanding. Instead, we have had and are still suffering a conveyor belt of very average players. Darren Ward, Neill Collins, Jason Shackell and now Christophe Berra and Richard Stearman……they are POOR players who time and time again make schoolboy errors. Taking into consideration other players that have been bought in under this regime and are regular first team players such as Elokobi, Ward, Edwards, Henry, Zubar, Hunt, Fletcher and even Doyle, none of the can be considered a success, we are second bottom in the table!!
I think the attendance of 8000 Wolves fans demonstrated the contempt at the way our team is now being “managed.” Whilst I am on the subject of the Stoke attendence, whose hair brained idea was it to charge £20 for a ticket? Another example of the lunatics taking over the asylum!
Perhaps a comment from Mr Moxey and an admission that the club got it wrong on this occasion? How about it Jez, just to prove you can relate to the people who pay your wages and eat humb;le pie for once.
With a heavy heart, along with several of my friends and family, I have decided not to renew my season ticket. Wolves have no God given right to the incredible support that they have enjoyed over the last few years, and alas it is dwindling at an alarmingly fast rate.
For the sake of our club Mr Morgan, please act now and change the management team.
