Matt Elliott searches for signings

Stafford Rangers manager Matt Elliott will step up his search for new signings this week after his side’s latest defeat – but insists no one will be leaving Marston Road.

A spirited performance from Rangers against moneybags Corby on Saturday was marred by more kamikaze defending, with Elliott’s men going down 5-3 at home.

But the manager’s sole signing, striker Shane Benjamin, is starting to come good and got his first goals for the club with a double, with fellow forward Ben Mills also finding the net late on.

Elliott’s only other activity has been to extend the loan of Plymouth midfielder Sean Kinsella until the end of the season, while loan goalkeeper Robert Ambrusics, Malvin Kamara and Chris Sterling have left Marston Road.

However, the Rangers boss search for fresh legs is ongoing with the target utility men capable of coming straight into the team.

He said: “We need strengthening, in terms of depth and also a little bit of quality wouldn’t go amiss, but everybody is looking for that.

“There are one or two players I have got an eye on who can cover one, two, three, maybe even four positions, which is invaluable on a tight budget with a smallish squad.

“But I am not going to bring people in and not play them because they won’t be happy and, at this level, people don’t hang around if they are not getting games.

“It’s a bit of a juggling act.”

But Elliott will not be showing players the door to make way for new signings, as Rangers are already working with just 16 players and are soon to lose Levi Reid and captain Craig McAughtrie to suspension.

He said: “We are looking to make additions but, having said that, we haven’t got a big enough squad to let anybody go.

“One or two injuries in the wrong area, obviously we have got cover in some positions, and we would be short of numbers.”
