Your say on the match action

Expressandstar.com bring you the news from our teams around the region and across the country.

Follow all the stats minute by minute on our Match Centre.

16:50: Full-time around the grounds across the country.

16:48: Stoke will leave Ewood Park with a win after putting the result at Blackburn beyond doubt with a second goal in stoppage time, Marc Wilson on target.

16:42: GOAL! Wolves pull a goal back late on but it could be too late as it’s still 2-1 to Wigan at Molineux, substitute Steven Fletcher hooks the ball in but can Mick McCarthy’s men find an equaliser?

16:41: GOAL! The game has slipped away from Albion now as they go two goals down with minutes remaining of their game against Bolton, Johan Elmander with the goal at the Reebok Stadium.

16:36: It appears a false dawn for Newcastle as Manchester City restore their two-goal advantage at St James’ Park, Carlos Tevez gets his second goal of the game and it’s 3-1 to the visitors.

16:28: Newcastle set up a tense finale at St James’ Park as they pull a goal back to make it 2-1 to Manchester City, Andy Carroll heads in Joey Barton’s cross but what was goalkeeper Joe Hart impeded by Steven Taylor in the build up?

16:12: Premier League leaders Manchester United look in command after going two goals up against Sunderland at Old Trafford, Dimitar Berbatov’s strike takes a deflection but it looks like an Anton Ferdinand own goal in the same fixture two seasons running.

16:06: There has been a goal at Ewood Park and Stoke are in the lead away at Blackburn, Robert Huth with the header.

16:00: Second-half around the grounds across the country.

15:50: Half-time around the grounds across the country.

15:40: GOAL! Albion fall behind at Bolton after good link up play between Lee Chung-Yong and Matthew Taylor sees them skip around goalkeeper Scott Carson, for Taylor to tap the ball into an empty net.

15:20: GOAL! It’s looking disastorous for Wolves now as they go two down inside twenty minutes at Molineux, Hugo Rodallega turns provider to thread a ball through for Tom Cleverley to apply the finish and make it 2-0.

15:09: GOAL! Molineux is silenced as Wigan go into the lead at Wolves, it’s that man Hugo Rodallega again for the visitors who scored in the reverse fixture in October.

15:05: Manchester United are up and running early on as they take the lead early on against Sunderland at Old Trafford, Dimitar Berbatov with the goal and – providing their results stay the same – the two Manchester clubs will form the top two tonight.

15:05: It could be a long 90 minutes for manager Alan Pardew in his second game in charge of Newcastle, wantaway striker Carlos Tevez has put Manchester City two up inside five minutes at St James’ Park.

15:02: The deadlock is broken inside two minutes at St James’ Park and it has gone Manchester City’s way against Newcastle, former Villa captain Gareth Barry with the goal.

15:00: Kick-off around the grounds across the country.

14:45: The early kick off puts the pressure on Wolves as they now must get at least a point to stay off the foot of the Premier League tonight, after a first away win of the season for bottom club West Ham at Fulham.

The Hammers even came from behind to win the game at Craven Cottage, Aaron Hughes’ opener cancelled out by Carlton Cole’s equaliser before Frederic Piquionne’s strike turned the tables in first-half stoppage time.

Cole’s second after the break settled the game and lifted West Ham off the bottom, can Wolves put them back there by 5pm?

14:30: It’s all about the Black Country rivals this afternoon, as Wolves and Albion return to action after the Black Country derby was postponed because of the weather last weekend.

Wolves could pull themselves clear of the relegation places with a result against Wigan, with revenge another motive for Mick McCarthy’s men after defeat at the DW Stadium in October.

Albion could climb back into the top 10 if they get points on the board at Bolton, as the Baggies hit the road just over two weeks after losing at Villa.

On that note, Villa will be in action in the late kick-off at 5:30pm, as Tottenham are in town with the home side looking to breathe life into their season with a result against their top four rivals from last season.

Birmingham have been ruled out of action again with their game at Everton was called off this morning, after apparent problems with the piping at Goodison Park in three of the four sides of the ground.

Walsall’s trip to Bristol Rovers was postponed on Christmas Eve, with the Saddlers next playing at home to Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday.

    Disillusioned Wolf

What a shambles we are. I am slowly resigning myself to the idea that it would be better to go down and rebuild in the Championship rather than scrap on in this dogfight with very little joy.

Whilst I hate to see a man lose his job, McCarthy must take some blame for this. His failure to sign a decent left back and persistence with average Championship players is costing us dear. We conceded 53 goals in the Championship in 2008/09 and it is pretty much the same defence as that, so we are bound to struggle. One clean sheet all season says it all.

Also, he has wasted our money. £7 million is an expensive bench-warmer, and Steven Fletcher just hasn’t come up with the goods or been given the chance to. Added to that, Mouyokolo seems a waste of money. The fact we are 2-0 down the Wigan at home (who we have no divine right to beating… it’s just we really need to if we want to survive) yet have spent something like £15 million+ this season suggests McCarthy hasn’t done his job.

I will always love the Wolves, but this season has left me disillusioned and unattached from my club.

    Filthy Wolf

Prior to the match Edwards said: We must show the REAL Wolves.

    Oh dear.

The REAL Wolves, then, will be bottom of the league.

Mick needs to go before he spends any more money and fails to use what he buys in January. We have the players, but not the manager to put them in the right places.

I was pleased to see he had not tinkered with the team, but the defending is poor, so much for Edwards comments a few days ago.

It is still McCarthys fault that we have reached where we are, mainly due to his waste of money signings, tactics, and Mouyo must be the biggest waste of time signing, when and if will he ever play?

We have all known since last season we needed 2 CB, 1 LB, 1 Midfielder, hasn’t happened.

Sad to say , I repeat SOS New Manager required, wake up Morgan, this is only going to get worse.

    No determination again

    crying wolf

Wigan went two up without ever needing to hit top gear. We are bottom of the league going into 2011, we have a manager who is clueless, the most fickle fans in the world, (last week Mick was the saviour although fans with only the two brain cells couldnt realise it was Mick who got us into this mess), and a chairman who wants to build a new stadium we simply do not need. Mmmmm a chairman who owns a building company who wants to build something we dont need, 32,000 seater stadium???? What for when we would rarely fill it??
Possibly when we play Man u or the Boggies but we wont be playing these sides if we continue to try and survive in the Prem with a Championship side.
    Boo hoo.

    Roger from Ross

How depressing! While the process of changing managers is destructive in the short term and results in a situation of ‘everything back to square one’ while the new regime begins its influence, I believe the time has now come.

Mick McCarthy is a passionate man with a fine work ethic but these two qualities are not enough in the modern game.
Constant team changes are clearly confusing the players. Individuals played out of position compounds this confusion.Add to this no apparent game plan and a poor record in the transfer market.

His man management skills must be questioned also. An autocratic style works on some but alienates others (Fletcher and Van Damme perhaps?). Throw into the mix an over reliance on supporting favourites whatever the consequence (Ward)and the bottom line is underachievement and relegation.

I have never advocated sacking managers as a quick fix. (I personally think we got it wrong with Dave Jones and Graham Taylor). This is different – we are at the brink of developing the ground (and club)while the team are headed in the opposite direction.

Come on Mr Morgan, on behalf of the fans,do what is necessary.
