Peter Karlsson comes back to Wolves
Wednesday 22nd December 2010, 8:29AM GMT.
Wolves speedway legend Peter Karlsson has been confirmed for the Monmore club in 2011.
And the 41-year-old is expecting to be in great shape come March.
He said: “I’ve been training well ever since the season stopped. This has helped me to go even harder.”
Karlsson, who skippered Wolves to the Elite League title in 2009, will be spending his 14th campaign in the black and gold.
Not even a temperature of minus 26 degrees outside the car in his native Sweden could cool the enthusiasm coming via a variable mobile signal last night.
He said: “It will be great to go back to Wolves and be with the club I’ve ridden most for in my whole career, out of all countries. When I get back there it will feel like I was never away.
“I’ve got a good feeling about the team, I think we will get results.”
Fans will not expect him to be the PK of 2006, when he was averaging over nine and a half and was one of the league’s top five riders.
However, he said: “But I feel exactly like then! I’ll be trying my very best to perform.”
Club owner Chris Van Straaten was “delighted” to seal the deal.
He said: “We don’t think for one moment obviously that he will be the rider he was a few years ago in terms of points.
“But in terms of value in the pits and his worth to the team, that’s immeasureable.
“I’m delighted to welcome him back again.”
The genial Karlsson’s sole concern is Britain’s ability to cope with the type of weather regarded in his homeland as a minor irritation.
He added: “I hope the tracks are ready in March in the UK!”
