Carling Cup quarter-final draw

Carling Cup quarter-final draw

There will be an extra Second City derby this season after Villa were drawn at Birmingham in the Carling Cup.

The claret and blues will cross the city divide to play their fierce rivals in the quarter finals, with a day to go until the first derby of the season at Villa Park.

Albion will be pleased with their draw after they were handed a winnable tie at Championship club Ipswich, with the Baggies currently on fire in league and cup.

Wolves would have gone to relegation rivals West Ham had they got past Manchester United on Tuesday night, while Arsenal’s home game with Wigan at the Emirates Stadium completes the round.

All ties will be played on the week beginning November 29.

pity its not a home tie, if we’d got a prem side i would have been happy with anything but a draw, however this cups got our “reserves” name on it now methinks.
with arsenal and man u probably getting champions league places would this mean a semi finalist may well make it into europa cup in 2011?
love the comment “if wolves had got past man u”, you didnt, you’re out.

At the moment, these are the best times for me as a baggies fan since Giles was last in charge!
We have the draw I hoped for – home or away this is winnable.
Hoping for our 1st cup final since 68.

Stick a picture up in the changing room of John Wile with his head bandaged when we played Ipswich in the F.A. cup. That’s the endeavour we need.

Although I can see that at the moment we have an incredible team and results are going our way so far we should still show a little modesty. That is our greatest strength as a club. We don’t presurise our players and they are thriving on that. I agree that it is a possibility that we might make Europe this season, but the supportive atmosphere at the club must be maintained whatever happens. But we should be extreamly proud of what we have acheived so far so I’m with you on that one.

Congratulations to Wolves for a good fight back against Man City yesterday. Hopefully all the midlands sides can stay up this season. The Premier needs some real derby’s rather than the diluted affairs in London and the North West (the only one with any real passion is Man U/Liverpool which isn’t even a real derby).

P.S. Does anyone else think it’s an absolute disgrace that the 1st Black Country derby in almost 30 years i n the top flight isn’t being televised?

What a disgraceful piece of refereeing by Clattenberg.
It encapsulates all that’s wrong with PL refereeing.

Ignoring his confusing and inefficient decisions. First it was a foul on Nani that he didn’t see. Followed by a dive by Nani that he chose to ignore. Then a handball by Nani that he says he saw but chose to ignore??????

What really stood out was his differing treatment of the players.
He dismissed the Spurs players like naughty schoolboys when he consulted the linesman. Fair enough except that he allowed Ferdinand to come over and join the discussion??????
Then when he came away Ferdinand remained abusing the linesman which he chose to ignore.
When the Spurs players went to challenge the linesman he ran back to threaten them with yellow cards.

Although it’s easy to imagine all sorts of corruption, I think it boils down to one thing. Our refs are terrified of Ferguson and Clattenberg has the biggest yellow streak of the lot now Stiles has retired.

Our referees are a national disgrace.

completely agree with you about showing some modesty.the start to the season we’ve made has been brilliant, but it’s a long season and football has a way of kicking you in the teeth when you think you’ve cracked it.we still need about 25 points to be sure of safety and there are no easy games in the prem.i remember when hull got to 20 points in rapid time only to avoid relegation by the skin of their teeth.sorry if this sounds negative but because of our track record in the prem i’ll still settle for 17th place.

Gentlemen, temper your hilarity with a modicum of reserve ! This is football we are discussing. What chance would anyone have given Northampton away at Liverpool? I’m with baggieinmanc on this. Cockerels crow and end up with their heads chopped off, plucked, stuffed and served on a plate.
“If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same”,
is as good advice now as when Kipling wrote it.
Just ask the gaffer if he thinks Ipswich will be a walkover. Then DUCK !
And yes, it is a disgrace that the Black Country derby is not on TV. Wolves are staging a comeback, we are on a high. How daft can the decision be NOT to televise it ?
Moulinex full, pubs full, Black Country in suspended animation, blood and snot flying..

Agree with both of you. Not jusy because we’ve only achieved a good start so far but also because the thing we all hate about the Man Ure glory hunters is their arrogance. Let’s not become like them.
Sit back and enjoy our success modestly, while shouting our heads off at the game.

Thanks, Just stating what the dingles think of their squad ( PANTS ). They think they’ve climbed a mountain, but will soon find our standins are already sitting on the top. League cup comes to mind.
