Stunning comeback for Saxons win

Stourbridge Saxons scored four second-half tries without reply to complete a stunning comeback and shock Rosslyn Park.

Stourbridge had trailed 23-5 at half-time but scored 27 unanswered points after the interval to shock their hosts 23-32 on Saturday and record a bonus point win in the capital.

The visitors had made the worst possible start to the game when Park’s full-back Ollie Lindsay-Hague collected a quickly taken line out and weaved his way over for a try in the first minute.

Park’s fly-half extended the lead with the conversion and then a fourth minute penalty after Stour had gone over the top at a ruck to make it 10-0.

Hooker Liam Wordley got Stourbridge onto the scoresheet with a try when he collected a pass from James Rodley, after the flanker’s scything break through the middle.

However, Davies slotted two more penalties either side of Jon Underwood’s try to stretch the lead to 23-5 at the break.

Underwood was driven over by the pack after winning a lineout 5 metres from the visitors’ line. The final score of the half again came from Davies boot to make it 23-5 at the break.

The second-half was a totally different story though with the forwards leading the fight back.

The pack drove over two scores from 5-metre lineouts with scrum-half Tom Richardson and flanker James Rodley putting the ball down for scores in 43ed and 55th minutes respectively.

It was then the turn of the backs to take control. Mitchell reshuffled the line with Thinus Delport on at full-back, James Hearn going to left wing and Luke Cozens coming in at 10.

When the ball was spread wide it was Hearn who found space to touch down on the left. Cozens’ conversion gave Stourbridge the lead for the first time in the match and he soon extended that lead with a kick from 50-metres out.

It was left to Delport to put the icing on the cake with the final score in the last minute of the match, after he collecting a kick and wrestling his way over.
