Rangers face wait to find new boss
Friday 8th October 2010, 8:30AM BST.
Stafford Rangers may not have a new manager in place by the time they return to action in the Blue Square North next Saturday.
The board met last night for the first time since Chris Brindley resigned on Tuesday to discuss his successor and are already into double figures for potential candidates.
Assistant boss Steve Wynn and the players were also at Marston Road last night, training for the first time since Brindley’s exit.
They were greeted by the board as soon as they arrived at the ground, with chairman Mike Hughes addressing a squad still shell-shocked by their manager’s exit.
Wynn is in caretaker charge until a permanent successor can be found but doesn’t want the job, although he may have to take the reins for the league game in eight days time.
Hughes and the board will not meet again until Monday, when they plan to draw up a shortlist and then hold interviews later in the week.
But the chairman has admitted it could take longer than a week to put a new manager in place.
He said: “We want to move on it as fast as we possibly can and, if the right person is there, it could be that we have a new manager by the time we go to Nuneaton.
“But, if we have to wait, it wouldn’t be a great problem for one match because everybody is working as normal.”
Wynn took training last night and will again when the players are back in on Tuesday, with the squad preparing as normal for the Nuneaton game.
But, the 40-year-old, who only came to the club in the summer, may not not even be at the club by then if a swift appointment is made.
However, Wynn insists until he is told differently he in charge for the foreseeable future.
He said: “I am taking every day and every situation as it comes, as far as I am concerned we have been preparing for the Nuneaton game since last night.”
