City cricketers head Down Under

Two cricketers from Wolverhampton are jetting off to Australia to represent England.

Tariq Ali and Barrey Sultan are in the over-35s England squad for the Indoor Cricket World Masters Series.

Ali, aged 41, is in the eight-man team while Sultan, aged 37, is first reserve.

The pair line up for Wolverhampton during the summer and play indoor cricket in the colder months.

Father-of-three Ali, a customer services agent at the Department for Work and Pensions, was looking forward to getting out to Perth, Sydney and Brisbane for the tournament.

He said: “It’s a very intense game and you have to be a good all rounder to do well in it.

“We’re up against Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.”

Sultan, of Kimberley Street, Penn Fields, added: “It’s a really interesting game and being a reserve I hope I get a chance to play.”

The tournament runs from October 10 to 16 with countries playing each other twice.

England start the tournament on October 10 with clashes against South Africa and Australia.
