Rangers could miss four defenders

Stafford Rangers could be missing four defenders when they go to league rivals Eastwood in the FA Cup second qualifying round.

Captain Craig McAughtrie will definitely tomorrow’s tie through a one-match suspension, Jermaine Johnson is still not ready to return after a hamstring injury, while left-back Jon Patrick is rated as 50-50 with a hamstring strain.

Centre-half Harry Davis is also not allowed to play under the terms of his loan from Crewe, who do not want him cup tied, which also rules out midfielder Kelvin Mellor.

But another loanee, Ashley Woolliscroft, has been cleared to play by his club AFC Telford, while Darren Wrack has declared himself available after making his debut against Gainsborough last weekend.

Striker Nick Wellecomme is also on the mend from the ankle injury that has ruled him out of the last eight games, but is not expected to be fit until next Saturday’s league game at Hinckley at the earliest.

Tomorrow’s all-Blue Square North clash at Coronation Park is one of four in the round, with £4,500 prize money on offer to the winners of the tie.

And assistant boss Steve Wynn is turning the negative of a hard draw into the positive of a fairer playing field should they go through.

He said: “We could have hoped for a better draw, being at home first and foremost, but a lot of Blue Square North teams have been paired together in this round.

“On the flipside, not everyone can get through, so if we can win the tie it gives us a better chance of progressing in the competition.

“Going to Eastwood may feel like a league game but there’s a significant amount of money at stake, which could make all the difference at a club like ours.

“We are not expected to win, but we will go there in a positive frame of mind and at the very least we are targeting a replay.”
