Scott Carson on Albion’s ‘ugly’ side

Albion are now equipped to ‘get ugly’ to make sure they stay in the Premier League this season.

That’s the view of captain Scott Carson after his team posted yet another performance to give the Hawthorns fans heart for the campaign ahead.

Carson is a survivor of the Tony Mowbray side that was labelled too naive and fragile for the top flight two seasons ago.

But taking their cue from that opening day hammering at Chelsea, Albion have hit back to register a point-per-game average from an early fixture list studded with games against the top flight’s most powerful forces.

After Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham, the goalkeeper admitted: “I think, in the past, we would have conceded the goal and thought ‘here we go again.’

“But it shows the spirit we’ve got. We play with a never-say-die attitude, we played against a very good side and managed to bounce back.  We take a lot of encouragement from that.

“We seemed to be too open last time. We’re doing the dirty stuff that we didn’t do last time – even seeing Jerome Thomas win a 50-50 slide tackle. It’s things like that we didn’t do last time.

“This time we’re better equipped and more compact. We’ve got more experience, we’ve got new players who have played more than 100 games at this level – that wasn’t the case two years ago.

“The more players like that you have the better it will be.”

Carson himself is producing the most convincing form of his Baggies career but, despite his England call a fortnight ago, remains focused solely on “playing consistently over the season.”

The three-cap international was watched by coach Ray Clemence again on Saturday and Carson is hopeful for the future.

He said: “I was delighted to get back in. I wasn’t expecting it.

“It’s a tighter squad than it has been. There was a time when you generally knew the team before you got there, but now the manager is looking at younger players and all the players and how they progress.

“I wasn’t aware Ray was at the game on Saturday. One game doesn’t make the difference – it’s about being consistent during the season.

“That’s all I want and that’s all the manager asks of me.”

Ugly shouldn’t be misconstrued as dirty. Roberto has built a solid defence for this campaign. The goalkeeper is only as good as the defence in front of him, rings true. Look at the points we’ve got and who we have played
fills me with confidence. Scot, you and the
team did us proud Saturday. It’s great the way
everybody is playing for each other. No doubt that was beautiful football to watch from both teams.

O no Scott don’t get dirty, this is the premier league and the players in this league don’t like to get tackled cus if ever they were to get a grass stain on their legs from a fair tackle you will be called a Disgrace to the premier. O no Scott in this league your soppose to roll over and let teams play their football, this rule specially applies when arsenal visit

Sorry for having a go. It’s just that I never like seeing people picking on individual players when I think I’ve seen them do alright.

As you saw, someone else agreed with you so it’s all down to individuals views. One paper’s reporter made Fortune MOM and Chris Brunt said he’d been very effective.

I know from the past that you’re a genuine Baggie but as you know a certain individual from the dark side likes to post under false names and I thought it might be him up to his monkey business.
Hope you can get up for some games soon to see for yourself. Good luck.

    Sid,
Hope you don’t mind me butting in. You mention
your army career but not if you’ve played football whilst in service. believe me, I’ve
missed more than one sitter and playing centre
half sliced the ball into my own net when it has been snowing. If you’d have done those things it would have given you a better understanding and you wouldn’t get your hair off when another player does. All the best
and keep watching our footballing team.

    Po,
Ugly means unsightly but Scott is using it in the context of ” Not so pretty “, nothing to
do with dirty. Glad to educate you.

2 poorboy-it only takes a little brainpower to understand what Scott is saying.Being more forceful on the pitch doesn’t mean picking up 14 bookings and a sending off in 2 games like your lot.And before having a go at our attendances, why not find out why 1,500 wolves fans have cancelled their season ticket this year?

As I said at the time. While I had my doubts that you wouldn’t get the irony, the spelling mistake really set the alarm bells ringing. I shall check all future posts that claim to be you for spelling, punctuation as well as good old common sense.
I still don’t know whether to be angry or sorry for these planks that have nothing better to do than get up to these shenanigans.
