After being awarded an MBE 2 years ago for his services to football, West Bromwich Albion legend Cyrille Regis thought he had reached the ideal time to tell his story.
The 52-year-old former striker launched his autobiography at the Hawthorns where he was joined by family, friends, former managers and teammates.
In Cyrille Regis My Story, the retired footballer reveals how he had suffered horrendous racist taunts during a playing career which took place when there were few top flight black players.

Nice one Cyrille! One of my all time heroes and one hell of a nice guy too!

I can recall a League Cup game at Upton Park where a banana was thrown onto the pitch. Cyrille picked it up and eat it, before going on to score the winner! What is not known is that as a result of this incident, John Lyall the Hammers’ manager, called in anti-racist experts to help combat racism at the club.
Always my number 9, Cyrille!
