Wolves’ version of Frank Lampard

All-action midfielder Adlene Guedioura wants to become Wolves’ version of Frank Lampard following his stunning first international goal.

His 25-yard strike was Algeria’s equaliser against Tanzania on Friday and compared with Molineux team-mate Kevin Doyle’s long range goal for the Republic of Ireland against Andorra four days later.

Guedioura said: “If you look at Frank Lampard I think he scored 22 goals in a season from midfield. I hope I can impress more and show I can start games and contribute to the team.

“I’m not solely focused on trying to score goals but if I have a chance I like to have a shot to help the team.

“I like to get forward and try to be a threat to the opposition. But my first job is to keep the ball and get tackles in and win the ball back in the midfield.

“After that if I can go forward I like to.”

Wolves regulars won’t have been surprised at Guedioura’s long range shooting.

It was his deflected blast that won the crunch survival game at Burnley in March and further evidence of his eye for a spectacular goal was underlined with his last-day winner against Sunderland.

He said: “When I was playing for Creteil in France I remember scoring eight goals in a season and a couple from shots like Friday.

“One of them was even better than this one. Hopefully I can get one in for Wolves as well. I do like to shoot when I can and I’m in the right positions.

“In modern football teams cannot rely on just strikers to score, they need to come from everywhere.”

Guedioura is also anxious to build on his performance against Everton when his arrival as a substitute helped turn the game, with his superb double tackle that paved the way for Sylvan Ebanks-Blake’s leveller.

He added: “I know a lot of people have talked about my contribution at Everton but that’s gone now.”
