Albion legend Cyrille Regis has lifted the lid on the racism he endured as a player after launching his autobiography at the Hawthorns today.
The 52-year-old suffered horrendous taunts along with Laurie Cunningham and Brendan Batson as they became trailblazers for black players in the top flight.
The trio changed fans’ perceptions and the former striker reveals all in ‘Cyrille Regis My Story.’
Regis said: “It’s great to finally get the book out. I really wanted to tell my story. I think it is important that the first generation of black players explain what they went through.
“People need to know the challenges we face in football and in world culture and it is great to be here doing it at West Bromwich Albion.
“The club has always been my first love. It is the club that is the closest to my heart. Most fans would appreciate that this is the club where I made a name for myself.
“I have many great memories here.”
The former Villa and Wolves striker was signed for Albion in 1977 by Ron Atkinson and received an MBE for services to football two years ago.
Regis will be signing copies of his autobiography at Albion’s club shop on Saturday from 11.30am to 1.15pm.

In the old days it would have been “madam” – but now it’s more likely to be “babe (or round these parts ‘bab’)”, “love”, “duck” or “chick/chuck”, writes Louise Jew.
