Somen Tchoyi targets midfield place

New-boy Somen Tchoyi today targeted a place in the heart of Albion’s midfield – but insisted he will play anywhere for boss Roberto Di Matteo.

The Cameroon international is keen to figure in the centre of the Baggies side, as he targets a first start at home to Tottenham in eight days.

But, having made his debut as a substitute in a wide right role at Liverpool, Tchoyi is ready to answer the call to arms from Di Matteo in any position.

He said: “I am a player for the team. I will play wherever the coach wants me to play, except in goal!

“I hope I can play more centrally so I can be more involved in the game. But I will let the coach do what he wants to do.

“He is the main man and he knows where to put players.”

Tchoyi, who joined from Austrians Red Bull Salzburg for £1.5million, is hoping to replace the suspended James Morrison against Spurs at the Hawthorns, although he will face competition from fellow new-boy Paul Scharner.

And the 27-year-old is looking forward to getting his teeth into Premier League action after a brief taste at Anfield.

He said: “I enjoyed it a lot with the fans and the atmosphere at Anfield. It wasn’t easy for us but I enjoyed it and I was feeling confident.

“I just hope in this week I will get in shape and we can go on from there. I came here to play and I am just waiting for my chance to show what I can do for the team.

“It is a big difference from Austria, because here every player plays for their country. It is an amazing league and I think I will enjoy it.

“I came to England because I am very ambitious, I want to get onto a higher level and try another style of play.

“In the Liverpool game we performed well and we have to look forward, because the level was not bad for our side.”

At this moment in time I`d probably include
Tchoyi ahead of the half fit Graham Dorrans.

The truth is RDM now has a multitude of options within midfield. However i see Scharner and Mulumbu as the holding pair JT or Brunt wide left, Tchoyi/Morrison/Odemwingie wide right, with Dorrans attacking. Yet with the felxibility of Odemwingie and Tchoyi it means injuries and suspensions hopefully wont hurt us as much as they have done in the past.

My only worry is the time it could take to learn which is our best starting eleven, it cost us last time under Mowbray, but i have more faith in Di Matteo.

Tchoyi was Austrias player of the year last season and think he will be a big hit in the prem. Best signing of the lot has to be Scharner though, he and Molumbu should look after our back 4 nicely. The Scharner signing signals our intent and personally can`t wait to see him in action, he is the quality we lacked last time around.

DLB – I don’t disagree 100% with your Dorrens comment but isn’t Mulumbu, Tchoyi AND Sharner together a bit too negative ??

I would play Mulumbu and Sharner with either Thomas, Cech or barnes out wide – but what a choice of options for RDM….. and I still think Dorrens will feature !!!

Thanks Bomber for your view on the subject

It’s going to be really interesting to see how things unfold.

I also wonder how long it will take RDM to know (rather than think / feel) who fits in best where on the pitch.

Like you though, I think RDM’s more flexible than Tony Mowbray was and so will change things around if they’re not working out.

Really hope Scharner works out. Not as good a season by his standards last year but has always looked a threat to me and I’m chuffed he’s ours

Our team looks tall and powerful now so as someone said yesterday, lets hope that will ensure more joy from set pieces – both in defence and attack!

Hello Baggie fans. I think that you will just about survive this season and Midlands football will flourish as all 4 clubs are financially stable.

Scharner is one of those players that were excellent the few season and got gradually worse. He publically stated a few seasons back he wanted to join Villa but it never happened and he had a very bad time last season. As for Shorey, the lad had a few good games for Reading 4 years ago but could never hack it at this level but is excellent in the chamnpionship as Forest found out.

Im tipping Blackpool, Westham andWigan for relegation with Albion finishing 17th, Wolves in 13th and Blues in 11th, Villa somewhere around the top 8.

I said the other day that I couldn’t even hazard a guess at the starting line up.

I agree that the height factor gives us so many more options at the front and the back. Not giving away so many daft goals should be a real plus point.

The other main difference for me is that we have so many pace options at the front now. Last season when we lost JT and Ishmael, especially in the game against Cardiff we were very one pace in the build up and offered little threat. We now have pace to burn, be like going back to the days of Willie, Cunningham and Big Cyrille.

I feel like a kid at Christmas. I want my presents and I want them now!!!! Who cares about England any more. They might as well rebrand our national team as ‘Rich Londoners FC.’ I feel totally unconnected these days.

The bit I can’t quite see is how we use Odemwingie and Fortuné. They won’t run up against Liverpool’s defence every week so they will be flexible probably with weaker teams, but I did like PO as the centre forward I have to say. There again, Sir Terence told me Fortuné was really outstanding, something you can’t quite define on computer quality. A nice conundrum to have though, I ain’t moaning, just wondering.

8.John. Probably a fair assessment overall, although having only 22 squad players and a new manager may drop some points for you early on. The new manager is going to be your most important signing. He’ll need to hit the ground running because you’ve lost one of the best in the UK in M.o’N. I saw yesterday that Blues manager is a bit miffed over his salary.
They may regret it too if they lose him. It can’t be easy for a coach/manager to get far less wages than his players yet be working a 16 hour day a lot of the time. Roberto seem to have bought into the Baggies scheme of things and MicMac is rubbing his doubters noses in it, so the Midlands may emerge this year.

I’d wait until you see who your new manager is. You might want to revise those placings a bit. With Randy tightening the purse strings and the very average Gerard Houllier hoving into view on the horizon, top 8 may be a bit of a pipe dream.

Likewise, how did you come to your judgement of us. We have a lot of new players, some of whom I feel sure you’ve never seen in action. Somen Tchoyi was player of the year in Austria although I’m sure the mention of Austrian football sends a little shiver down your spine.

MO’N played a rigid type of football which doesn’t suit all players. When Shorey played for Reading they played football rather than the Villa kick and rush style (that’s not a criticism as it’s served you well) but a footballing team like ourselves will suit him more.

Of course Scharner wanted to join the Villa, isn’t it every player’s dream? Apart from Milner that is…and Barry.

Anyway thanks for patronising us, we would expect nothing less from our mighty neighbours. Feel free to come back anytime.

    PS.
If you are Laughing Wolf posing as a Villa fan, I’ve promised to be nice to you so I’ve vented my spleen on the Villa. It’s what they would have wanted.

Just read on an older headline about Facebook being used to insult players before they’ve even kicked a ball! We shall get to the stage where every club has a Master Psychologist and even a psychiatrist if this carries on. The internet has so many great features but this one scares me. We avoid it like the plague here.

What’s pleased me is that so far their doesn’t seem to be anyone with a massive ego coming into the club. The one thing we don’t need is the dressing room spirit upsetting.
I thought Wingie’s attitude after his debut was like a breath of fresh air, a real team player and very humble. I had some doubts about Paul Scharner but he’s come in like Somen Tchoyi, saying the right things. I know it’s only words so far but that’s better than the lad that joined Wigan and tried to get out of it at the last minute.

Anyone noticed the change in Chris Brunt? People commented on Jonas Olsson being immense at Anfield but I thought Brunt was as well. He’s always been a good player but seems to have added so much to his game this year and in the battle for places now he will take some shifting.

Will RDM play Brunt in central midfield now with all his options. I think a fit J Thomas on the left is the right option. I don”t think Brunt plays his best football wide right. Also we have miller to come back, when he is fit he is a dangerous player.

9 TRBH-Being an Englishman,I’ve obviously always supported England, but since I was a young lad in the 60′s,there’s seemed to be a tendency to look down on most players in the West Midlands. If you play for Man U,Liverpool,or a London club, and are English,a call up to the National squad is almost guaranteed(e.g. Heskey had time at Liverpool and managed 7 goals in 60 England games),if you play for Albion and score for fun, like Bomber Brown,Big Jeff or Cyrille, you eventually get a couple of meaningless friendly matches to stop any moaning, then dropped for good.I’ll never forget Statham being without doubt the best wing back in the country, but was kept out of the England team by the inferior Sansom because he played for Palace and Arsenal.I have to admit, this being the case, when the ‘golden boys’ mess up,like in the world cup,I’m unhappy my country lost, but also have a little laugh on the side.If England have no interest in my players, why should I care about them?

Nice to have you on BOARD. I believe Shory didn’t have much playing time at Villa recently, therefore has been out of sync’. Scharner has been playing anywhere but his best position.
These two players in my mind have been mismanaged something ROBERTO will soon rectify. Hope I have settled your mind?.

MON left cos he knew you were weal this year and Lerner wouldn’t spend the cash needed to compete with spurs, L’pool ect.

Even albion and wolves have tried to build this season

Having lost your best players in each of the last 2 seasons and not replaced them there is only one direction you will heading.

Ebanks – is on top form atm
S, Fletcher / Doyle – 15m strike force that is worth around 25m

Doyle was a bargin who arsenal wanted. Worth 15m

Fletcher was looks like a bargin if you saw him against stoke

The reason everyone missed him is down to the
fact that most teams just let the managers
find the players as they dont have a scouting
networks in place,i.e Aston Villa who just
buy dross British players like REO-COKER,
    DAVIES,HESKY,and A.YOUNG.
Iam convinced that very soon all Premiership
teams will be following the Albion way of
having a chairman and cheif scout who buys and
sells the players leaving the manager to get
    on with coaching the players.
