Michael Kightly open to a loan move

Wolves winger Michael Kightly today revealed he is happy to go out on loan once he recovers from what he admits is a “serious” injury.

Kightly was today linked with a temporary switch to Championship side Reading, and believes his exclusion from Mick McCarthy’s 25-man squad relieved the pressure on him to rush back.

McCarthy had stated Kightly and Stephen Hunt would make the cut but, while Hunt was included despite not being fit until October, Kightly suffered a setback in his bid to recover from chronic inflammation of the patella tendons.

The news once again raised fears about the winger’s long-term fitness, having not played since last November and making only three starts since breaking his foot in March 2009.

But Kightly is remaining upbeat and is keen to get  some football out on loan in the hope of being available for Wolves in January, when clubs can change their 25-man squads.

And the 24-year-old will have no shortage of advice on Reading if an offer comes in with Marcus Hahnemann, Kevin Doyle and Hunt all ex-Royals players.

Kightly said: “This is a serious injury and one which is complex to deal with. Any setback is disappointing, but it’s something I’ve learned to cope with over the last year or so.

“I’m ready to give it as long as it takes, but when I do get fit again it would be good to get out on loan.

“I’m staying positive and carrying on with the rehab without any pressure on when I need to be fit again.

“Once I wasn’t going to be ready it was always going to be the right decision not to be included in the 25. The gaffer needed players who he knew would be available to him.

“If the loan was to happen, then by January I could be ready to challenge for a place here.”

Luckless Kightly has suffered a catalogue of misfortune in the last 18 months.

The wide man broke his foot in a training ground friendly and then underwent an operation on his metatarsal and hip to resolve a long-term problem.

Then he suffered an ankle injury against Birmingham last November, only to break down with the problem in his knees during his rehab.

Patience is the key here. He needs to be sure the injury has completely healed before going out on loan, otherwise he may end up missing the whole season.

I Hope he gets over this latest injury, but this is the 5th now in just two years ,yes two are foot injuries, but the other three are different parts knees/hips/ankle?. It must be a major concern to himself and the club, and fans alike. We all know his a top player but these things happen to even the best of players i.e Matt Murray, its not always just the injuries which are very hard to overcome, it a ‘mental’ thing too, sportsmen/women often find its the mental part which is extremely hard to overcome more than the physical side of their injuries. But i know we ALL wish him the best, and hope to see him flying down the wing again soon, creating goals for Doyle,SEB,Fletcher, and scoring some cracking goals himself. ‘GOOD LUCK’ MICHAEL. UTW

    BIG BAD TELFORD WOLF

I think we should take whats being said about kites’ situation on face value,
yes hes had a set back again, and its obvious this latest setback was going to side line him until at least Jan, hence the bent signing, which as we all know has been met with huge disapointment, i too was disapointed, but after the initial shock and the urge to end it all subsided i can see the benefit to having Bent on board, hope kites makes it back to his old self. all the best sonny.
    up the wolves.

First reaction as always with The Wolves was Mick?!?

Then it sinks in that having an injured player in the 25 is a total waste of space and time. This is the perfect solution.

He goes out to Reading and we find out if he can come back in the New Year. Trouble is, like Matt M, Kightly is starting to be one of those players we can only remember from the few appearances they have made in relation to other team mates.

I hope it is the start of the comeback, and trust Kites will be steaming down our wings in 2011!

If Reading want him on loan does that mean he’s on the brink of returning to fitness?

I can see Wolves building on last seasons survivial and with the new stadium and iconic support you have down there predict that you will be a top 10 club within the next 3 years.

Albion will just about survive this season and Blues will finish above you so all good for Midlands football I feel!

I really hope kites makes a full recovery but he needs to take his time and go out on loan when he’s 100% no matter how long that maybe! I had heard that the knee injury had finished him & wouldn’t grace the old gold shirt again! But ever the optimist I believe kites will be back to scare defences in the prem! When, I don’t know tho! KITE’S take your time kid, even if it take’s TWO years. It is important for you to remain patient and involved with the club for as long as you can,God forbid, you dont return atleast the time spent hoping getting fit will have toughnend you for any forthcoming dissappointments.
I would LOVE to see you playing at some level even if it is not the prem.
Remember things can be far far far worse just look at what is happening in some countries.

2)SirSoggyChips. Pathetic ! Hope your paint ball shirt doesn’t run in the rain.

Let’s hope Michael Kites uses these next 15 weeks or so to get fit and come back to challenge Jarvis, Mr Jelly, Wardy and Hunt.
