Luke Moore axed from Albion squad
Wednesday 1st September 2010, 10:59AM BST.
Albion misfit Luke Moore was today axed from Albion’s Premier League plans until January at the earliest.
The £3.5million forward was the odd man out when the Baggies submitted their 25-man squad to the Premier League for the first half of the season.
The decision is not a major shock but represents a new low in the career of the 24-year-old, who was once hailed as a star of the future after helping Villa’s youth team reach the FA Youth Cup final.
Young goalkeeper Luke Daniels was the only other senior man left out of the 25, with the 22-year-old expected to leave on loan once he recovers from a back injury.
Albion’s list includes 11 ‘home-grown’ players, comfortably exceeding the minimum requirement for eight.
Chris Wood and Joe Mattock do not need to be included in the 25-man list as both can play as under-21 players.

Thank the lord for that! No more of that shoulder shrugging sulking charity walking donkey in albion colours! Send him on loan to hereford! :-)

I’m highly delighted that Luke Warm has been left out of the 25 man squad. It’s just a pity that the gaffer couldn’t have got rid of him completely during the transfer window, he’d have been off the wage bill then as well.
I’d be interested to find out if any offers at all came in for him.

Mad Mick must be kicking himself,he was searching for someone to improve his strike force,Luke would have done just that, but maybe it would have been embarrasing for Bodie and Doyle.
For me this is a sad end to Luke’s Albion career. We paid a lot and had high hopes. Some of his all round play is actually pretty good and he even gets into plenty of scoring positions. Is Fortune so different? Following the text commentary when he plays it often pops up early with a Luke Moore miss. I hope he finds a club and a bit more success elsewhere.

I wish him well but its for the best, he`ll go on loan next week to someone in the championship and good luck to him.
Our future now is our fantastic new squad, we`ve made some great signings adding height, power and real pace.
Best of the lot and a contender for signing of the season is Paul Scharner – how the heck did we pull that one off.
I have also been dissapointed at Luke and often asked why we dont sell him, so whilst I’m glad of this decision I will simply say lets hope it works out well for all concerned as I’m sure we have all felt out of place somewhere at some time in our lives, and whilst we were not getting big money for it, the fact remains if strikers don’t produce they are soon turned upon. Mr Bedner please take note !!
It is true Luke has not performed in Albion colours and never looked like he wanted to be here which is a pity to be honest. He is quick has good control and is a good finisher just a pity the motivation was never there but bet he is happy with is 25K per week give or take a few grand. The way this lad is going he will end up warming the bench at some local none league club. wasted talent!
Im afraid you’ve only got yourself to blame Luke. If you want to salvage a once promising career you need a long hard look in the mirror. Has been one of Albion’s worst ever signings. His lack of assumed interest was there for all to see.

There you go Mick Missed your big chance to improve your strikeforce. He’s younger than Bent into the bargain. Are well you can’t win

Things are getting better by the day for ALBION.

I have a few words of advice for Luke Moore.
Whatever it is that stops you reaching your potential, ADDRESS IT ! You can afford a therapist, psychologist or even a Psychiatrist if it really IS that bad. You pass this way but once. Mess it up and regret it all your life long. What will you do when the money dries up? Football crowds are very forgiving. Do the Biz, they’ll forget overnight the bad bits and you could be a hero. Bit of bad Army Latin to finish:
Digitum Extractum !

Cyril – Totally agree with you. The guy should not be suprised nor should we.
But it’s up to him. Personally I think football clubs should be able to put new clauses into contracts that may on their option reduce wages if players are not in the 25. That way the indiviuals concerned will have to get on.
I’m sure it’s not lost on JP that we are spending potentially 100k per month to pay this guy to do nothing effectively. His agent will never ever be able to get him an improvement on that.
Wonder what effect if any this will have on him on the training pitch.
I’m afraid Villa got rid of him because of his attitude, now Albion are doing the same.As teenagers,Luke and Wayne Rooney were the best in the young England squad, one was hungry for success, the other doesn’t seem to care less, guess which was which?I don’t have any sympathy, because he’s young, healthy, obviously wealthy, and naturally gifted, there are millions of people in the world that would love to be in his shoes,it’s no good being lazy and feeling sorry for yourself. If it all ends up pear shaped Luke, you only have yourself to blame.
I remember seeing Luke Moore as a youngster,he looked promising,so when we signed him i was pleased.Even RDM says the guy has talent in training, maybe he suffers a type of stage fright and freezes on the pitch. He now has 4 months to sort himself out, let’s hope he can.

Well I got my wish as have many Albion fans. But having called for LM to be dropped, loaned and sold for over 2 years now I do feel a little sorry for the lad.
I hope his decline was lazyness turned to stage fright because if that is the case he will hopefully go elsewhere and prove his worth. Bang in 25 goals in a season and crack on with his career.
I don’t think LM did the Baggies any favours but I don’t think we did him any either.
I don’t want to think that our club have destroyed a promising lads career, so I wish him all the best for the future because I don’t think he’ll be playing league football for us again.

As many people on these sites have said, everybody is entitled to their opinion,I have mine on Sir Terry who is obviously a long standing passionate Baggies fan but in my opinion he is overly obsessed with the Wolves and a lot of his comments strike me as very childish, just as many people may think I’m a prat, but that’s life.
I don’t see where I’m defending Wolves fans, you called them the enemy,I don’t understand that mentality but if that’s how you feel,so be it.

I think Sir Terry is the Albion version of Marmite. Personally I love them both. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him post anything nasty but he is more often than not very funny (again we all have a different sense of humour thank God.) I agree with those sentiments.
I think we all hoped that the goal he scored at home against (I think it was) Man City a couple of seasons ago was going to be the start of something special for him and us but it wasn’t to be.
My understanding is that LM came to us from Villa as part of the Curtis Davies deal so whether he cost us £3.5m or saved Villa £3.5m is perhaps a mute point although perhaps now irrelevant

Does anyone think it will be dorrans to make way in the midfield as i believe we will play mulumbu and scharner in centre with two wide men and odemwingie drifting between attack and midfield?????

32 billyfish-you talk about your strikers ‘quality’.Including last season and so far in this one,the 3 have collectively scored about 10 goals for you, which must strike the fear of God into the opposition.I make it that if the 3 cost you close to 20 mil.,the return so far has been nearly 2 million quid per goal.Still, you will get some of it back when you eventually have to sell them on the cheap.

47 I think I agree with you …
Yes it will be Dorrans who shall make way … he senses it too cos today he said he wants to join a bigger club cos he is ambitious. I think he shall be warming the bench this Winter. No one is bigger than the club John.
Too much rubbish being banded about on here to address all the ponts, but (and yes its all only my opinion)
Dorrens has not stated that he wants to leave Albion – he has just had the chance to leave to any number of clubs been instead signed a new long term contract. Obviously he wants to play at the highest level he possibly can, and most baggies fans understand that and accept that we are unlikey to be playing champions league football any time soon – so if he gives us a couple more great seasons and then moves for a huge fee – fair enough.
Re Sir Terry – he approached spelling like Les dawson played the piano – deliberately badly… and the more people moan about it, the worse it gets – and i love it !!! Having met our Terry i can confirm the man is a comedy genius – and no one nets more wulfies that him !!
finally – may I offer my condolences to Scott carson who has had to withdraw from the england squad following a family bereavment – all the very best to scott & hos family.

Can’t say I agree with you or disagree. It’s a testament to our embarrassment of riches in midfield that I can’t even hazard a guess at the line up against Spurs. Cue DLB and I’d love to hear what anybody else thinks our line-up will be.
I’m not deluded into thinking that it’s going to be easy this season just that we’ve never had a squad that’s a patch on this one before (especially the season we survived) which shows what a lottery survival can be.
We need to look at Blues last season. Their position was down to a balanced squad of determined players teamed with a bit of luck. Our last two performances have been reminiscent of the way they played last year. I know you don’t get any ‘luck’ against the big clubs but a bit against the others and we should be okay.
Dorrans to make way in midfield?
GD needs a little patience. He is undoubtedly our most skilfull central midfielder. He’s not playing terrible football he just needs a little time to adjust.
Calling for his head this soon seems a tad premature don’t you think? Give the lad a break.
I agree that we need to play two defensive minded Midfielders and with Mulumbu, Reid, Jara and Scharner on the books, we have some great options at our disposal. With two wingers that would leave the central attacking role to Dorrans. If he’s released in that position he will cause a lot of headaches and score a few goals. But more importantly he can carry the ball forward and he has a good eye for a through ball.
All these attributes make him our best player in that position. We all knw he can do it so why drop him? If other teams have to worry about marking him out of games then they will leave other areas open.
We have a few danger men in the side so some teams will be caught short if they use this tactic.
My team for Spurs would be:
Carson, Jara, Olsson, Ibanez, Shorey, Scharner, Mulumbu, Brunt, Tchoyi, Dorrans, Odemwinge.

Have to agree with 52 RBH on this one.
RDM has a number of difficult choices to make all over the pitch (with maybe the exception of striker)which is exactly what we need
Dorrans is a good player and I don’t think he’s looked out of place so far this season in the prem.
Of course he hasn’t been as much of a controlling influence on games so far – but look who we’ve been playing against
I read little if anything into the fact he’s been substituted. I would suggest that RDM himself needs to see for himself where all players fit into his medium term plans
I do think that our expectation of Dorrans may have been a little too high but he shows plenty of the signs which suggest he will be a very good player in the not too distant future.
If he moves on in a year or two to a bigger club, it will mean that he’s been playing well for us which can only be good for all concerned.
Of course he wants to play a the highest level and to achieve that I think he’s done the right thing by signing a new contract with us to enable his education to continue.
I’d be interested in Bomber’s opinion on this one. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out
Report abuse
Number 53 i never called for his head. I simple pointed out that with all the midfield options maybe he may be the one to make way.
It seems to me fortune and odemwingie will both play as we need to address the previous problem of our lack of goal threat.
scharner is on 30k+a week and mulumbu has been excellent so far.

I wouldn’t like to speculate as to the exact line-up, but with Odemwingie on the right against Liverpool, I suspect it may be Morrison that makes way, particularly given that he’s got himself a suspension.
