15:15: Championship club Reading have signed Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili on a season-long loan deal.

13:40: It’s nearly done and French striker David Trezeguet looks to be ending a decade-long association with Juventus to join newly-promoted Spanish top-flight Heracles.

Maybe Albion could have signed him after all, then.

13:24: Blackpool have brought Wycombe winger Matt Phillips to the Premier League for an initial fee of £325,000, according to the League Two club.

13:15: League One club Plymouth have tied up the signing of Guadeloupe-born defender Stephane Zubar, brother of Wolves defender Ronald.

One player definitely at the Britannia Stadium is Portsmouth captain Marc Wilson, who Albion also bid for, with a fee agreed between Stoke and Pompey.

12:00: Championship side Leeds have signed Honduras forward Ramon Nunez on a permanent deal after the 24-year-old impressed on loan.

11:38: It could be another loan move for former Wolves star Robbie Keane – to Turkey! Besiktas have launched a surprise bid to sign the Tottenham striker on loan.

11:35: IT’S GETTING CLOSER! Birmingham have agreed a deal to sign Chile international Jean Beausejour from top-flight outfit Club America in his homeland.

10:00: Whispers around the transfer market are linking former Villa and England striker Darius Vassell with a move to Notts County after leaving Turkish club Ankaragucu.

09:30: Most of the speculation at Villa, unsurprisingly, is who is going to be Martin O’Neill’s permanent replacement as manager.

After much pondering, caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald has decided he wants to keep the job, but he is a big enough name for owner Randy Lerner?

Everton boss David Moyes, whose team lost 1-0 to Villa on Sunday, is being strongly linked but the club are also reported to have sounded out Alex McLeish, manager of Second City rivals Birmingham.

A former manager of Blues, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce, is another possible, with even newly-appointed Fulham boss Mark Hughes emerging as a shock target, but count out United States national coach Bob Bradley.

09:00: Into the hot-seat at transfer central.

It’s not going to be the busiest transfer deadline day Wolves have ever been a part of but there will be some activity, with manager Mick McCarthy actively seeking a striker and fully expecting to have a new man in place by the end of the day.

Albion pulled off a coup yesterday to land former Wigan star Paul Scharner on a two-year deal and, with Rochdale defender Craig Dawson heavily linked this morning, there could be more new faces coming through the door at the Hawthorns before transfer deadline day is out.

Most Villa fans would rather have a permanent manager on board by the end of the day than new players, but caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald had been working on a list of transfer targets since taking temporary charge, could we see one or two of them come off today?

Birmingham have been linked with many names big and small since the transfer window reopened although manager Alex McLeish has been coy on moving for his targets so far.

But today’s the day – McLeish is about to run out of time.

It’s expected to be a quiet day at Walsall with manager Chris Hutchings boldly declaring his business is done in the transfer market, but we have all heard that one before, haven’t we?
