Harriers tie up Aman Verma loan
Friday 27th August 2010, 8:45AM BST.
Kidderminster Harriers have today completed the signing of Leicester youngster Aman Verma in time for him to play in the Bank Holiday double-header.
The 23-year-old goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Newport County and Monday’s home game with Tamworth, after joining on a month’s loan from the Championship Foxes.
Verma is known to Harriers assistant boss Gary Whild through their together at Redditch, which earned the player another shot at the full-time game with Leicester after earlier being released from the youth system.
The utility man is predominantly a midfielder, brought in to cover the loss of John Finnigan who is facing weeks out with a recurrence of a groin injury.
Harriers can also call upon Lee Vaughan, Mark Albrighton and Marc Williams again tomorrow, although Williams will miss Monday’s game after being called up to the Wales under-21 squad.
Boss Steve Burr is also expecting Nick Wright to be fit despite bruising to his ankle, but Callum Gittings is out with a sore shin.
The manager said: “Newport have come into this division, spent quite a bit of money and are looking to go up again.
“It’s another tough one for us and, like I keep saying, there are no easy games in this division now.
“But our two away performances so far have proved that we have got nothing to fear, the disappointing thing is that we haven’t managed to get anything from the two home games, which we have a chance to do something about on Bank Holiday Monday.
“Tomorrow, we will also be setting our stall out to go and win, because I personally don’t know how you can go into a game with the negative frame of mind of getting away with a point.”
It has been an inconsistent start for Harriers with one win, two defeats and a draw so far, with Burr warning that must be remedied if the team are to stand any chance this season.
He said: “We have to be, from one to 11, on our game. We can’t afford this season, with the squad that we have got, to under-perform.
“You might get by with one, two and three maybe having an off day, but we won’t get away with any more than that.”
