Bob Bradley: I want the Villa job
Monday 23rd August 2010, 10:45AM BST.
United States coach Bob Bradley today confirmed he wants the Villa manager’s job as he revealed tentative talks had already been prompted by his advisors to the club.
Bradley is the new bookmakers’ favourite in the race to succeed Martin O’Neill after yesterday’s 6-0 defeat to Newcastle hit the hopes of caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald.
Despite having no Premier League experience, the American is keen to test himself in English football when his contract as US coach expires later this year.
“Aston Villa is a massive club with great history and a great following and those type of opportunities would of course be of interest,” said Bradley. “I would certainly be honoured to have that conversation.
“I know there have been some discussions with my representatives to at least find out the situation. My contract runs to the end of the year, and, following the World Cup there have been some discussions about what the future holds.
“We’ll continue those discussions in the next few weeks so we’ll see what happens.
“Aston Villa seems to have taken a good stance at the moment — they are patient and they have a very good man in Kevin MacDonald who is highly respected in the club.
“I think they are on one hand putting a list together, but on the other hand, making sure Kevin has the time to consider his future as well.
“It’s been handled very well and I think most importantly it shows the stability of the management and the club when they have someone who’s been there and they’re very confident with him.”
