Somen Tchoyi tipped to shine at The Hawthorns
Saturday 21st August 2010, 8:52AM BST.
Roberto Di Matteo today backed new-boy Somen Tchoyi to ‘beef up’ the Baggies after the club’s two-year pursuit of the Cameroon man finally reaped rewards.
The 27-year-old signed a two-year contract with an extra year’s option in the club’s favour after agreeing to move from Red Bull Salzburg.
And Di Matteo believes the 6ft 3in Cameroon international, who can play as a winger or in central midfield, will add some much-needed bulk to the Baggies’ Premier League campaign.
“It’s been a drawn-out process due to circumstances out of the club’s control but all the hard work has paid off and I’m delighted to welcome Somen to the club,” said Di Matteo.
“He is a powerful midfielder who will bring a physical presence to our team and also be a real threat at set pieces.
“Somen has all the attributes to play in the Premier League but I think it is important we don’t expect too much too soon from him as he will need a little time to adapt to English football.”
