No bid yet for Marc-Antoine Fortune

Albion have not yet made a bid to bring their former loan star Marc-Antoine Fortune back to the club – but are not ruling it out.

Reports that the Baggies have lodged an offer with Celtic for Fortune are premature, but the 29-year-old is firmly on the Hawthorns radar.

In fact, Albion have kept tabs on the French-Guyanan since he chose Celtic over a permanent move to the Black Country last summer and they have been alerted to rumours that the Bhoys might consider selling the forward.

Fortune made a positive impression during his loan spell at the Hawthorns during their last Premier League campaign, scoring five goals in 17 league appearances and proving an effective targetman.

But following relegation he opted to follow Tony Mowbray when the ex-Baggies boss quit and moved to Parkhead.

Fortune has been a regular starter under Mowbray’s successor Neil Lennon and he started in last night’s Europa League qualifying win against another of his former clubs, Utrecht.

But rumours from Glasgow suggest Lennon would consider cashing in on Fortune to raise funds for his own team-building plans and that could alert Albion, who are hunting a forward to ‘lead the line.’

Fortune is not regarded as a prolific goalscorer, but the Baggies would hope he could bring out the best in the likes of new-boys Peter Odemwingie and Somen Tchoyi.
