Ishmael Miller and Joe Mattock injured

Albion have ruled out Ishmael Miller and Joe Mattock for anything up to a month after the duo picked up training ground injuries.

The pair will be sidelined for three to four weeks after being injured this week.

Miller’s absence will leave Roberto Di Matteo short of cover in attack, but Mattock is currently behind Marek Cech and Nicky Shorey in the pecking order at left-back.

Head coach Di Matteo said: “We have two players who have picked up injuries. Joe Mattock twisted his ankle in training and Ishmael Miller strained his thigh.

“Right now we believe it will be three to four weeks for both players, roughly.”

Di Matteo was today preparing his players to face Sunderland at the Hawthorns tomorrow in their first home game of the Premier League season.

The Italian has demanded cool heads in the wake of last week’s 6-0 defeat at Chelsea.

He said: “Before the season started I said we don’t want to get too down when we lose and too excited when we win – that’s exactly the kind of thing we talk about.

“We analyse the defeat and try to put it into some sort of perspective. Last season other teams got beaten by more than us down there.

“We made some mistakes and if we cut out those mistakes we will have a chance. We were all disappointed and it was a very painful experience for me, but also for the players. They were very disappointed.

“We want to do well and we have our first home game on Saturday, so hopefully we can bounce back.

“We analysed it and tried to put the defeat into perspective.”
