Albion sign Peter Odemwingie

Albion sign Peter Odemwingie

Albion have completed the £2million signing of Nigeria international Peter Odemwingie – as they prepared to wrap up the £1.5million capture of Somen Tchoyi.

The Baggies, who are also considering a bid for old-boy Marc-Antoine Fortune, announced the arrival of Odemwingie today and the 29-year-old could figure against Sunderland tomorrow.

But they seemed likely to lose the race to have Cameroon winger Tchoyi available for their opening home game of the season as he awaited the results of his medical, although his move was in its final stages this afternoon.

Odemwingie could be in the squad providing he receives international clearance before the team-sheets are submitted at 2pm.

Boss Roberto Di Matteo said: “Peter has a great CV and I’m sure seeing a player of his calibre coming into the club will give everyone a lift.

“He has got great pace, is two-footed, scores goals and has good experience at a very high level.

“We’ve brought him in as a striker but he can also play out wide, which gives me options.”

positive moves happening now so things looking ok not sure about fortune like a loan deal there me thinks incase hes not up to the battle he was not last time we had him and was quick to jump ship n follow judas to celtic roberts would be a better bet or even should have got bellamy so fortune not too hot on try for tuncay may be a better punt

Great news – his CV looks fantastic and he has done well everywhere he has been and at all levels – just what we need.

I would also like to so M.A-fortune back as i think he did well for us last time.

if we can get Tchoyi signed up as well then we look a much better balanced squad with some good options – just need that last holding midfielder….

the season starts on saturday !!!!!!!

Well said Smethwick No.4. If you’d all listened to Radio 3 about 30 minutes ago you’d have heard Beethoven’s ‘Spring’ sonata and would have KNOWN all was well with the world. I feel we could beat anybody after that! I’d still put the new boy on the bench to start. You can’t beat having a good look before you dive in the deep end.

I may have become temporarily insane, but i think Hesky could do a job for us, holding up the ball, creating chanches for the attacking midfield and “Wingie” or whoever plays up front with him as he will obviously hardly ever score himself, but then scoring is not the point of Hesky…. I’d still like us to take a punt on Amir Zaki, but maybe that’s the insanity again. Just glad we’ve got this one sorted out.

I agree with Happy, if we get Tchoyi signed up and bring in a defensive midfielder (I personally like Kucka, but Wilson and Tiote are great options) then we’ve done exceptionally well this summer and anything else is gravy i.e. Fortune, Sidwell etc.

It’s been a difficult transfer window for everyone except Man City so the lads behind the scenes, JP and DA, deserve a pat on the back. I think we’ve bought well and I’m looking forward to seeing the final product.

This is Gr8 news and lifts my confidence before a big big game tomorrow. However, on the downside Ive just read on Sky Sports thats Di Matteo is backing Carson to raise his game tomorrow. Well, I bet Myhill is just loving that, thinking if I cant get a game when Scott has had a howler, then when will I ever get a game. I have to say, its crossed my mind. I realise Scott has to make up for last week sooner rather than later but come on, Myhill must be well pleased he joined us to sit on the bench every week, NOT!!! Another strange and questionable decision by the gaffer me thinks!!!!

1 more striker and we’re set in my opinion, as I think you need at least 4 good strikers in this league to succeed.

Would be happy if we signed Sidwell too, bit maybe think I’m being a bit greedy there?!

Looking forward to our return to the Vine, then the Shrine!!

So Tchoyi’s officially signed as well which is excellent news. Close thing though, didn’t realise it had to go to an FA appeal panel for his work permit application.

I’ve seen him play a few times here in Salzburg and he’s just what we need. Literally a whole new ball game in the Prem but I think he’s equal to it.

I’m not JP’s biggest fan but a good bit of business today and a real confidence booster for tomorrow.

At last the Albion fans have something to get
excited about, cant wait to see these guys in
    action up the Hawthorns.
I was listening to Gold today and the 1st
caller on was a baggie who was having a right
old pop at Jeremy Peace,I know the bloke is a
bit of a tight fisted bugger but for christ
sake he`s just signed 2 players on the same
day what more do people want.
Maybe Roberto Di Matteo could use Graham
Dorrans in a holding role now we have signed
    Somen Tchoyi.

Well what a brilliant days work, two world cup internationals, I think we can start singing as it’s chucking it down anyway ode
beut. listen this Somen Tchoyi is six feet three inches tall and is a column of muscle.
There fans are fuming at the club for letting him go especially for the price ALBION
have paid for him. That’s our JEREMY. Wolves
Blackburn and Stoke went in for him. You’re
right tomorrow! Sledge-Hommer, Dark-Ruby or a pint of each. Happy hunting BAGGIES.

At the risk of repeating myself [time and time again] as you know the score was 6-0 this suggests they all had howlers,so to your way of thinking all 11 should be dropped.
What is the difference between Carson who made 1 mistake and in the following 20mins made 2 good saves, and Brunt or Tamas.
This was the first match and against the champions,I don’t think for one minute Myhill expects RDM to drop a player after one game,if that was the rules RDM would never play the same team twice.
As the more sensible who post on here have been trying to tell the impatient moaners “all comes to those who wait”.There have been a couple already but it would be nice for those doubters to admit they were wrong “to cleanse their souls”.
So all that’s left to be said is I hope you all have a great day,I’m just pissed I can’t make it today, and I’m sure you’ll give ALL the lads your total and vocal support.

24 Kev. It takes a big man to admit he’s made a mistake, smethwickbaggie qualifies, maybe sneezewort by 2nd hand default, but don’t hold your breath mate because if for any reason we don’t win 6-0 today, the JP denigrators will be on here about our poor goals difference. Sneezewort mentions the FA appeals panel as one obstacle to surmount. There are probably many others. I think it was TRBH who mentioned Grobbelaar who went to Liverpool with a work permit yet we were refused one for him. It ain’t always what you know, but who you know. We were furious back then.
DLB21. There is a world of difference between ‘tight fisted’ and ‘prudent’. If a friend borrows £20 off you and you don’t see him ever again, it was worth it. That’s tight fisted. We have an Academy, a superb training ground, excellent medical facilities, The Hawthorns in clean, good upkeep, (except for the clock), a structured pyramid of jobs and responsibility and we don’t owe money to anyone. That’s prudent.

I not keen on signing fortune from celtic although he works hard his goal scoring record is not that clever he soon run off when we needed him, to join mowbrey not a good deal to expensive let him go to west ham who are chasing him.
