West Brom wrap up Boaz Myhill deal

Saturday 31st July 2010, 12:05PM BST.

Albion today predicted a fierce battle for the No.1 shirt at The Hawthorns after they wrapped up the signing of goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.

The Wales international was due to play in this afternoon’s Baggies friendly at Coventry after penning a three-year contract last night to complete his £1.5m switch from Hull.

And his new club expect the 27-year-old former Villa trainee to push England international Scott Carson hard for a place in the first team.

Head coach Roberto Di Matteo said: “I’m delighted to welcome Boaz to the club.

“He joins us at a good age and with a good pedigree, having helped Hull win promotion to the top flight and spent the last two seasons in the Premier League. Boaz obviously knows what it takes to play at the top level and he’s also a good character.

“I’m sure he will fit nicely into our goalkeeping department.

“We’ve now got two very good international keepers working under our goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely. Competition is vital in all areas of the squad and I’m confident Scott and Boaz will drive each other on.”

Sporting director Dan Ashworth added: “It’s no secret that, since Dean was promoted to goalkeeping coach, we’ve been looking to bring in a new keeper to compete with Scott.

“Boaz certainly fits the bill and we’re delighted he’s agreed to join us.”

It looks like things are starting to move.I’ve got a feeling there’ll be 3 or 4 more signings before the deadline. We’ve been trying for a midfielder,I can see one more defender (left back please),and either one or two strikers. It could be enough for now as long as they have some quality.I’m sure Albion want new blood, but it’s slow because they are obviously choosing carefully. At least we won’t have to wait much longer to find out.

What a battle for the no.1 spot witH Kit Carson,Carson needs to be on his toes now.Two good keepers at the club,”I would suggest “not too many clubs outside the top 6 have two keeper’s of such quality”.

Let’s try again. My last two attempts at getting this post in has obviously upset someone somewhere !! It’s great to see that you’ve signed someone !! However I do not see any moans and groans about buying from a relegated club !! When we bought players from relegated clubs it caused you great amusement. Well this news has caused me great amusement as well – and you bought a goalkeeper from a relegated club as well !! Pot, Kettle and Black are words that spring to mind and yet here you are hailing it as a great signing !!

Dont know what to make of this signing yeah he provide competition in the goal keeping department, but hes a bit like Carson for me.

Will have games (eg vs Spurs) where he looks unbeatable then have a few games after that where he seems to flap at everything.

Some of you Wulfs are a great source of amusement.

Ridiculing Carson, who has represented England at a younger age than Seaman or James did, and at 24 who has many years ahead of him, when you’re number one has 7 caps for the USA and is currently behind Howard and Aston Villa’s reserve goalkeeper in the pecking order.

This is straight from the “We’ve got a team of established (Welsh/Scottish/Austrian/Belgian/Irish/Guadeloupian) internationals but your World Cup players are useless” Wulf blind school.

I do not think Myhill is that bad a keeper and in fact could be first choice. Carson was touted on here for England… please. Carson and Green never again!
Goalkeepers are no problem at the Wolves, as we have a wealth of talent – Hahnemann, Hennessey, Ikeme and the best Englisg goalkeeper – if he was ever fit – Matt Murray!
