Full Rangers team for Stafford derby
Friday 30th July 2010, 8:30AM BST.
Stafford Rangers boss Chris Brindley has promised to field a strong line-up with local bragging rights at stake in the pre-season friendly at Stafford Town.
The Marston Road men make the short trip across town from Marston Road to Riverway tomorrow (3pm) to face their local rivals, who have just been promoted to the Premier Division of the West Midlands League, which is still five leagues below the Blue Square North where Rangers play.
But Brindley is refusing to underestimate his opponents and will start many of his first-team regulars, although right-back Jermaine Johnson is again missing from the team with a hamstring injury.
The manager is also hoping striker Ben Mills will play some part after missing Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Rocester although Chris Sterling, a first minute match-winner in midweek, is expected to partner Nick Wellecomme up front.
Others are also carrying slight knocks, but the Rangers boss will give them as much game-time as they can handle tomorrow.
He said: “We will have a good side out and the majority of the lads will play, as we only have a 17-man squad at the moment. A few have got slight knocks so we might not risk them with another game on Tuesday against Port Vale, but it will be a strong line-up.
“Stafford Town will be very much looking forward to this and they will try to give us a good a game as they can. We are mindful that there are no easy games, we respect everybody and we expect a good battle.
“It’s nice for them, they should get a good crowd and it will help them out – that is the point of it.”
