Eric Djemba-Djemba’s club hit back

Danish club Odense today hit back at Albion for attempting to drive down the transfer fee for Eric Djemba-Djemba on medical grounds.

The Baggies pulled the plug on the proposed deal yesterday after the Cameroon international midfielder failed parts of his Hawthorns medical.

And the Danes today blasted the Baggies for trying to renegotiate the transfer fee.

Odense director Kim Brink said: “West Brom have confirmed to us that there was a problem with the medical and wanted a lower price.

“I don’t understand this. I want to confirm that Eric has no injuries whatsoever. Yes, he was injured during the spring but he’s ready now.

“There are no problems so I think it is a poor explanation by West Brom to get a better price.

“People can come and say whatever they want to get a better price but if they really wanted Eric, they would pay what we agreed.”

Djemba-Djemba, aged 29, flew to England on Monday to agree a move to Albion with the initial fee agreed between the clubs believed to be around £1million.

The transfer looked set to go ahead with Djemba-Djemba even joining Roberto Di Matteo’s squad for Tuesday’s friendly trip to Doncaster, watching the 1-0 defeat from the dugout.

But problems emerged with the former Manchester United and Villa man’s medical and, although the Baggies were willing to press ahead with the transfer, they sought a re-negotiation to take the medical issues into account.

The Baggies have now moved on to alternative targets with rumours across Europe continuing to link them with a range of players.

Reports claiming they had enquired about French striker Michael Pereira, of Real Mallorca, are wide of the mark, however.

And club sources have also played down reports from the Czech Republic about Slovakia international midfielder Juraj Kucka, of Sparta Prague.

While he will attempt to sign another defensive midfielder to replace Djemba-Djemba, Di Matteo’s top priorities remain two new strikers and a goalkeeper to fight with Scott Carson for the No.1 jersey.

Well I think this shows they either were desperate for the money or desperate to get rid of him. Seems a little bit sour to me.
I wonder if we will take him on loan with a view to a permanent move then if no one else comes in. Wouldn’t be surprised if we still try after all we have taken a lot of time up with this deal to date.
With respect to Odense it’s not helpful to either club or the player to have a public slanging match.

Wolves fan – so please don’t throw things. But four questions:

    1. Why do you think the promoted clubs have not got many players in yet?
    2. Do you think WBA will benefit from 25 only rule where bigger teams will perhaps want to loan out their fringe players.

    3. Who will WBA’s key player(s) be next season?

    4. Who will come out on top in the big derby games? (I think four points to Wolves)

How can people not get it….It’s Simple’ssss

To buy a house, I agree a price on the basis of a viewing. Following professional reports I find out it has damp, I go back and renegotiate a reduced price, tell the vendor to fix or pull out of the deal.

To buy a car, do you do it with out turning on the engine.

All JP (more likely his team of staff) have done is try to reduce the cost of taking on a risky bit of business, the risk was too great for the money they want, so low and behold we pull out.

Every club in the world would (and probably has) done the same if the deal didn’t feel right

Fact of the matter is every team in the PL has more than 25 players on the books (top 4 having more than 40 each) some of these will be “Investments for the Future” but the new rule means paying for a team who will not be able to play.

There will be a lot of players for sale/loan in the next few weeks, Question is will last minute buys be over priced by desperation, or underpriced, by a glut of players looking for a new home.

Do you think he was just a ‘numbers’ buy, just like we did last year with Maierhoffer and the like???

    1) Bomber put a post on the other thread re: Fergie which probably summarises the reasons. The market’s mostly at a deadlock and it won’t start until a few clubs get things rolling. I think there were some available e.g. relegated clubs’ players- which you pursued- and free transfers e.g. Ibanez.

    2) I think clubs like Albion and Wolves can both benefit, probably moreso us as your recruitment seems to be over from what MM said re: Mancienne. But it should be relative as the excess players will filter down through all teams and divisions, so you still need to be shrewd with who you pick up to gain an advantage.

    3) Whoever plays as our loan striker (probably still to be signed), Mulumbu, Dorrans and 2 from Olsson/Tamas/Ibanez(whichever two become first-choice).

    4) I think they’ll be tight, tighter than some of your fans seem to think. Survival last year doesn’t catapult anybody into mid-table status. I think Wolves have improved in the last 12 months but I’d say we’re closer in terms of quality now than we have been in some years, we’ll both be scrapping away. It just concerns me that you’re due a win.

Glad the deal is off but we need a plan B and even a plan C to work now.

It can’t be that difficult to get new players, surely! I can only assume it is because the deals we offer do not look attractive.

I think some Baggie fans needs to take a reality check and remeber a few things! Firstly the Transfer Market is very quiet, lots of rumours but hardly any deals, all the clubs are taking their time. Its because of the new 25 man squad rule, when the season starts and players know who is in and out these squads the window will kick into drive and the last week will be mad, we just need a little bit of patience!

Secondly, it is not Mr Pearce who sings players! Dan Ashworth finds players (the same man who found Ollsson, Dorrans, Mulumbu and Jara) Di Matteo then decides who he wants and Mark Jenkins says if we can afford it or not. This system as worked well for us before and we just have to keep the faith it does again, i was worried when i heard about the Djemba deal but they must know what they’re doing it!

    Keep the faith fellow Baggies!!!

Looks like we are going to bid 1.5mil for James Beattie and pay the 40k a week he is on at Stoke.

I just cant help but think players are put off by JP, can our fans honestly think that RDM said “wait until the season starts before we do all of our transfer activity”? It is tripe, we are struggling to attract players as JP has NO AMBITION. Sell up you moron.

    1) Because our Chairman doesnt want to back RDM like he did Mowbray, he doesn’t have a great deal of faith in him and just like you last season, players dont want to join a club that is newly promoted, the bookies have us at evens to go down.

2)I think this is a smokescreen that the fans are hoping will work out but no way would the club risk bringing players in after the season starts

3)Mulumbu and Dorrans. We need a new keeper who could be very important.

    4) Unfortunately, I think you will gewt the better over us this season in both games and the league position, as much as it pains me to admit it, your club have progressed and moved forwards whilst ours just tends to stay the same with JP hasppy with his salary.

Let’s see if this one ‘posts’, instead of ‘page expired’.
We are heading for four of the hardest games of the season away from home. The market is DEAD! The whittling of players may not start until after August 14th so it may be a while before anyone comes into our squad, or anyone else’s for that matter. Stay calm folks. There are probably just six teams who are not affected by the new rules and even they will wonder how they can afford the Prem., the Cups and the European fiddle-de-dee with just 25 players. In fact, there’ll be some fiddling going on, mark my words.

Yes,yes yes, we all know it’s a slow transfer market because of the World Cup, because of 25 man squad rule, because of the current financial climate, because some chairman are holding on for a (cheap) hero.
Pearson is playing a risky game, a Spanish sub and a player who would have preferred Celtic and that’s it. The season kicks off in two weeks. Where are the new players, if they do come are they going to introduce themselves to each other during the warm up ?

I think Villa must be looking for top 4 class players and must wait whilst the ManCitys of the world decide who they want to buy, sell and loan. Wolves have started on the front foot and forget that nonsense about signing relegated players. I think Blues should have done more in the market by now,I do worry about losing Hart. Albion ? I think you’ll find it very difficult to turn around your Premiership form.
    We shall see !

    21. Yes, we have a hand including Joe Mattock, Reuben Reid, Zuiverloon, Carson, Cech, Meite, Moore, Bednar, Cox, Wood, Jerome Thomas, Giles Barnes, Miller. This is a championship hand not a Premier League one.

It is not the strategy of the club to wait and see what other clubs are doing and sign them all in the last minute RDM has said that he intended to have his squad together now but we are finding it hard to attract players.

The Dings have signed the best players from the relegated clubs and we wanted Hunt and the Belgian guy, this is a shrewd move as they have proved that they are good enough and their previous clubs needed the money. Blues have signed a couple of quality players aswell. Newcastle signed Sol Campbell yesterday and we were some way off them in terms of quality already.

Alot of work to do but unless 4-5 players come in to improve the 11 that start, we will be back in the championship next season.

Well said. I think that waiting to see what happens is a gamble but it’s also an educated risk.
There are more than likely going to be some quality players on offer at the end of the window.
I do think however that we need Beattie at least by then, although Chelsea will probably prove too strong with or without him anyway.
There seem to be a lot of Wolves posts who are very critical of the way the Albion have chosen to play this transfer window.
All I can say is this. Given a choice, who would you rather have in your corner if it came down to a battle of wits? JP and RDM or MadMick and the fat controller?

Good to hear some common sense about the Wolves signings. Some of the commnets I have seen about not signing players from relegated clubs on this forum. Now I see baggies look like signing Myhill from Hull so what’s the difference? I wish all our teams success this season and look forward to good banter on these forums. Regarding the baggies I think you will make 1 big signing a striker and there are plenty of players who will be available on loan the only problem doing it so late is it will take time for players to settle.

It’s going to be a dogfight at the bottom of this dreadful League and I for one welcome the 25 player ruling. I await the day when only FIVE foreign players are allowed per squad, then those with Academies will help produce a decent England side maybe. I couldn’t care less how many shares Jeremy Peace buys up. The changes he has made have moved us into the 21st Century. The last twelve years of the 20th were a bloody nightmare, but we stuck it out waiting for someone to rebuild our club. All you knockers, go hang your heads in shame.
