Birmingham have been linked with a surprise raid for former Chelsea star Eidur Gudjohnsen.

The Monaco striker is available after Tottenham's bid to bring him back to White Hart Lane on loan stalled.

Blues and Fulham are reportedly monitoring the situation although, with the Cottagers still managerless, Birmingham are likely to be ahead in the queue for any deal.

Gudjohnsen finished last season on loan at Spurs and manager Harry Redknapp is keen to bring him back but a deal has hit the buffers.

The Icelandic striker has seen his stock fall since leaving Stamford Bridge for Barcelona in 2006, having struggled to make an impact at the Nou Camp before moving to Monaco last year and failing to settle.

But the 31-year-old scored twice in 14 appearances for Spurs, helping them pip Villa for the final Champions League spot.

St Andrew's chief Alex McLeish is still hunting reinforcements ahead of the Premier League opener at Sunderland on August 14, having been linked with several strikers after recruiting Serbia World Cup forward Nikola Zigic from Valencia for £6million earlier in the summer.
