Niall McGuire injury blow for Rangers
Tuesday 27th July 2010, 8:30AM BST.
Trialist Niall McGuire has suffered a blow with injury set to rob him of another chance to impress for Stafford Rangers at Rocester.
The midfielder has been left with an ankle ligament problem after the team won the Chase Cup pre-season tournament at Hednesford on Saturday with a 3-2 second leg win, so will miss the trip to the Midland Alliance side tonight (7:45pm).
Rangers boss Chris Brindley reckons McGuire is looking at being out of action for at least a fortnight, a big blow for the player who is looking to earn a deal at Marston Road and step up to the Blue Square North after being part of Stone Dominoes’ charge to the North West Counties Division One title last season.
Defender Jermaine Johnson will also miss the game at Hillsfield with a hamstring injury, with the manager set to use a number of his fringe-players to avoid losing anyone else before the season kicks off at promoted Boston United on August 14.
That is likely to mean a run-out for former Villa and England schoolboy player Ben Love, who can play at right-back and is the only specialist option with Andre Francis also absent through work commitments.
Brindley said: “Most of the lads will play some part, but because we have got a couple of injuries it may be a bit of a mix and match side. Seven or eight of the regular players will start, but we don’t want to miss too many more.
“It may be that some of the players who have been on the bench will get the chance to play.”
