Ishmael Miller fit again for Albion
Tuesday 27th July 2010, 10:30AM BST.
Striker Ishmael Miller has urged Albion to maintain their 100 per cent pre-season record when they return to the scene of their promotion glory.
The Baggies go to Doncaster tonight to continue their Premier League preparations three months after clinching a return to the top-flight by beating Rovers.
And Miller has recovered from the minor injury that sidelined him from the weekend win at Bristol Rovers in order to face the South Yorkshire side.
The Baggies have won all three of their pre-season fixtures so far and Miller believes the record can breed confidence in the squad.
He said: “It’s mainly about getting fitness, but also about trying to win games from now. It’s nice to win games and it gives everybody a lift.
“We are working hard through the week, so when we get to the games a lot of people are lethargic and tired.
“But it’s good that we’re still putting in good performances and getting wins, which is the main thing.”
Miller, Roman Bednar and Simon Cox all hope to return tonight from the injuries that forced them to miss Saturday’s 1-0 win at the Memorial Ground, a game clinched by Graham Dorrans’ second-half winner.
And head coach Roberto Di Matteo is pleased to see the Scot continuing his goalscoring form from last season.
He said: “It is good that he keeps up his habit of scoring goals, but it’s always a team effort and the build-up was very good to that goal as well.
“It’s a bonus if you have a midfield player that can score goals.
“There aren’t many around that can do that.”
Albion have changed their training programme this week after three weeks of intensive fitness work.
Di Matteo is happy with their progress so far.
He said: “Not all of them but the majority of them have done all the work, so the hardest bit of pre-season is probably behind them now.
“We will now do a little bit less running and a bit more football-related training now to sharpen them up a bit.”
Fans can pay on the turnstile at Doncaster tonight.
Tickets are priced at £10 adults, £5 concessions and £1 juniors.
