Jerome Thomas confident he can win a Baggies place

Bullish Albion winger Jerome Thomas today insisted he will win a place in the Baggies’ team despite intense competition for his spot.

The former Charlton man spent most of last season in the wide left spot but an injury in spring allowed Chris Brunt to excel in the role. However, Thomas is confident he can fight off all-comers is he stays fit.

The 27-year-old said: “I’m never one to get worried about anyone taking my position in the team when I’m fit — no matter what club I’ve been at in the past.

“That’s just me as a person and how confident I am. I’m also willing to work hard.

“‘Brunty’ is a great player in our squad as well and we need players like him to push.

“At the end of the day if I have a bad day, an injury or suspension then Brunty can step in as can Giles Barnes and other players like James Morrison, who can play on either flank as well.

“We need that strength in depth in the Premier League.”

And Thomas is upbeat about the Baggies’ chances of success in the Premier League.

He said: “We need to establish ourselves as a Premier League team and my own personal view is that we can do that without being in a relegation battle, like Birmingham did last season.

“It’s not too high to aim for that, but if the worst comes to the worst then we will roll our sleeves up and fight for our place.”

I think the competition for the left wing depends on the kind of striker we have playing. For example if we have a big striker like Bednar who relies on service in the air then Brunt would be the ideal choice to play out wide so he can whip those crosses in however if we are playing a striker like cox who isnt the biggest then i think Thomas/Barnes/Morrison would be better so that if/when they cut back to shoot Cox pounces on any rebounds.

I believe our midfield is stronger than anything in the bottom half of the Premiership.we know what we want to make ALBION a formidable squad.
I’ve said before, we have great staff and players as everybody wants them. Bedner being the latest.

Good to see that another club are after Roman Bednar. Some people might now realise that he’s a decent player with a lot to offer.
If we were buying him from a foreign club there would be posts on here saying great, probably the same ones moaning now that we have no strikers.
Yes I know we need at least another one in but I think Bednar could be a big player for us this year as long as he can avoud injury.

With a few more additions I can’t see why we shouldn’t be top of the chasing pack. Sure I agree
    with Jerome.

    4. You are living in dreamland. I understand you love Albion as do I but seriously….come on.

It looks like we are signing another midfielder but not a player who is going to improve our squad. The fantastic Eric Djemba-Djemba looks like he will be signing this week. Flopped at Man Utd 8 years ago, flopped at villa 6 years ago and flopped at Burnley 3 years ago in the Championship. Has recently been released by a club in Quatar and now playes in Denmark.

This is now becoming a huge joke.

Djemba-Djemba must have shown something sometime to have even got to ManU and Villa. Maybe RdM can polish the lamp and a genie will appear. If not, back into the sea.

I still think we will be O.K. with a few more good signings. Also I agree with the latter part of your post about the joke that is Djemba-Bjemba
and need to aim higher. Maybe it’s another decoy
    for Mad-Mick,I sincerely hope so.

Don’t always judge a player on their past clubs and performances. I bet Villarreal fans thought Diego Forlan would be useless and Blackburn fans thought Santa Cruz wouldn’t hit a barn door!

I’ll judge him on how he plays for the baggies if he signs!!
